Went to OSO Pier last night (10-12-12), wife caught 36" black drum. Her biggest catch ever. Caught a Bull Red, had to be over 40", unfortunately wife screwed up with the net trying to get it on the pier and my line broke. Also caught a variety of other fish (no keepers); speckled trout, gaff top, whiting, and a couple of croakers. If wife hadn't screwed up would have been an awesome night.

Not sure how to post pics, I do have a pic of the drum[/img]

You were going to let the 40 inch red go anyway - just think about it as an easy release.

"Screwed up". Is pretty harsh. "Suffered a valuable learning experience" is a little more PC.

How many days of flower bouquets will it cost you before your honey forgives you for posting that remark? Confused

Might want to go easy on the wife there sparky. She might not want to fish with you too much longer if you keep that up. Nice report otherwise.

Great job on the catches and thanks for the report.

...you know, catch and release can go both ways!

I am his wife and I actually posted this because I felt really bad. He had 65 lb braided line on his reel but a 20 lb Carolina leader. The leader is what broke. I just felt horrible for him not being able to get the fish out to take a pic with it, it was a red of a lifetime. I love to go fishing with my husband, I just felt so bad that it was kind of my fault the fish got away. I had a hard time getting the fish into the net because the net was too small for the fish, when I tried again snap there went the leader. As someone posted a valuable learning experience, hopefully we can try again soon.

My wife doesn't like to fish although I tried everything to make it pleasurable for her. on't like to fish alone but love to fish soooooooo.
Everyone has a fish lost. No big deal. Just go back again and again and you will find a larger one to land for him. Good fishin to both of you

Whenever I lose a fish, a 17th century quotation comes to mind.

It's from
The Compleat Angler Or the Contemplative Man's Recreation, by Isaac Walton, published in 1653.

In reference to fishing with homemade doughballs, Isaac Walton wrote the following advice:

"But when you fish with it, you must have a small hook, a quick eye, and a nimble hand, or the bait is lost and the fish too (if one may lose that, which he never had)'

When you think about it, it makes sense not to fret over losing any fish, because how can we lose that which we never had?
