Hi everyone!

I'm ahead of the curve this time, since we are not already in Corpus trying to figure out where to fish and what to fish with!

I'll be heading down the weekend of 6OCT with my 9 year old, fishing fanatic son. Smile

We got some waders, so we can walk out into the water a bit more than just from the shore. Hoping this will help us get to more fish.

Our plan is to stay near Packery Channel somplace and fish between Clem's and the jetties. Unless someone has other suggestions? We are still pretty new to salt fishing, so open to all suggestions.

Thanks!
Chris (from Austin)

The water is still pretty warm. Waders tend to prevent me from getting deeper when wading which limits where I fish. The last thing you want is to get too deep and have them fill up with water. Especially your son's. The 6th is still a ways off so plenty of things can change including the the location of fish so I would post up again in about a week. Don't forget the surf it's been pretty good lately as well.

Thanks for the note.

I suppose we can also just get some wading shoes so we can shuffle along. I hear you about the waders filling with water and will be pretty restrctive on where / how deep we go. I figure we are looking to just get out in about 2 feet of water (perhaps mid thigh on him), which could be a nice extension to our casting reach.

We are looking to make sure we have the "right" equipment. Right now, we are spooling lines with 30# braid with a 20# leader. Don't know if we are going with bottom or bobber, so will need some pointers there. We picked up som 2/0 hooks, thinking perhaps those might work better than the smaller ones we've used in the past. We experimented with live shrimp last visit and had fun, though if we are wading, perhaps go with gulp?

Our goal is to catch fish. He doesn't really care what he catches, though I know he wants to catch a "bigger one". Smile I'm thinking specks and reds. Though open to whatever the board suggests would be best for this time of year...

Thanks for suggestions.

A good place for an easy wade is behind the church. Kate's Hole. If you try to google it, the sites that pop up say its somewhere else. There is a parking lot nearby and you can drive around behind the church and the area. Wade to the right of the power lines. Look at the area on google satellite maps to see the hole. Bottom rigs with dead or live shrimp could be good. You could also try the jetties.

Is Kate's Hole right off of 361 going to Aransas Pass?

Yes, not too far from north packery channel. 3 to 5 ft deep shallow, further out 6 to 8 ft deep....
