|
|
It has been my personal experience that the Game Wardens tend to avoid the Packery jetties, and was just wondering what others here thought.
I have NEVER seen a GW walk down the jetties checking for licenses, nor have I ever been asked for mine while out there spearfishing (and that is a large number of times).
What brings this up was this past Sunday, I was just sightseeing on the south jetty and saw a GW truck drive up, sit at the base of the jetties for a couple of minutes, and then just drive off without even getting out?!?! It maintained me personal streak of never running into a GW there, and just wondered if this was common or that I am just really lucky? |

i had one check my license fishing with my daughter next to billings..i was extremely polite to him(engaging in conversation), when i showed him my license he looked mad didn't say another word, got in his truck and drove off..i don't have a problem with game wardens however this one kinda upset me..he seemed really mad he couldn't write me a huge ticket...pretty messed up IMO.. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

| I've had the same thing happen at the Fish Pass jetties. Drive up, watch for a few minutes, drive off. |

| I was at Clems back in January when a GW came around to everyone at the dock. I proudly showed him my license and thanked him for coming out to check everyone's. The wrote a good number of tickets that evening... |

I don't mind being check. I must look suspicious though, since I once had 3 wardens board just to check our licenses and box of fish. No problems, they were very nice. _________________ JJ |

Piers and jetties are too easy. They prefer sitting at the mouth of Baffin every day. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

I have been checked their twice and on PINS four or five times with a couple of those being park rangers. I must look shady. I got asked for my license by a park ranger when David Sikes did that story last month with Capt. Billy Sandifer. Billy and David were out in the surf and I was at the truck. No worries, sort of like when the checkout person asks to see your id if you are using a credit card. I would rather they get the bad guys and don't mind a license check. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I have never been checked out there either. Wardens do a very valuable job and I commend them for everything that they do but it is my opinion that there should be a warden assigned to check the piers and jetties everyday. Especially during the Bull Red and Bull Drum Runs. It would only take one warden to make the rounds to each of the piers and jetties and that warden would write more tickets than any of the others. Shoot, probably more than all the others combined.
This is just my opinion and it could be completely wrong but it seems like all the wardens want to be on a boat or in the AC of the truck not walking down a boiling hot pier or jetty. I don't blame them cause I would too. This is why it seems like you either get checked on the water or on the beach. Very seldom have I seen a warden on a pier or jetty despite the fact that a huge number of violations occur there.
I would guess that the guy running a $50,000 Haynie probably spent the $50 for his license. Spend some more time checking the piers and jetties.

In 20 years of fishing here and the last 10 being more than average person, I have been "checked" 5 times at the most.
I have seen them drive to Fish Pass and turn around, but they did check me last year out on Packery. It was a GW lady and a city police officer man; interesting.
I have always thought that strategic locations could pretty much cover anyone they wanted at any given time, or sufficient enough that criminals would think twice. |

I always wondered if they were discouraged by the local municipalities from checking on the popular touristy areas like jetties and big piers. Seems to me that a 2 hour walk down the Port A jetty will yield more tickets and fines than probably a week worth of checking fish boxes at the docks. _________________ JJ |

AND if and when the GW does check out the piers and jetties, they should make it their business not to go at the same time each visit. The shady's will not be there when the GW is. _________________ FishLady

On a related note...........earlier this summer I was at Sopac and witnessed several youths retaining undersized trout. They were running them down the jetty to their truck. I called Game Thief and spent ten minutes on the phone just trying to have a GW sent out. We hung around until dark and no GW ever showed. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

How funny that a bunch of folks out there have had the same experience on Packery. Makes sense about the "entities" discouraging the touristy areas, but that just the conspiracy-theory guy in me.
Did get a smile on my face on the way back from Port A this morning, as the "drum run parking lot" out in front of the causeway had a GW boat making the rounds (there must have been a dozen boats and at least that many wade fishermen in that little stretch). Of all the times to see the GW, it had to be after I asked this question earlier today! |
