No point in landing a catch and release fish if the fight is going to kill it in the process.
Hook it -- get a few jumps and thrills -- break it off. _________________ Run the Flats----Ruin the Flats |

and just how are going to break off 100pound braid?
sorry im landing any tarpon i can that i hook
there is absolutely nothing wrong with catching and releasing tarpon, there are allot of fish that are way easier to kill than them..some fish are just so stubborn they would rather die than be caught..my 942# marlin fought till it died(fight time was 5 1/2 hours on 130pound tackle) _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

I can't believe I'm saying this but I tend to agree with He who shall not be mentioned on this one..... You're saying that you WOULDN'T land a tarpon if you had the chance?!?! WOW!!!! I can't see ANY angler getting "a couple of jumps and thrills" out of a fish like that!!! I hate to say it but that's one of the most retarded things I've ever heard!! _________________

A game warden.....close to bob haul.......thats laughable! |
A phone call of a tarpon being cut up would get a few hauling supple bum over there. For some reason, with tarpon, snook, etc game wardens definatly react more to these rarer gamefish. |

Its not so much the fact that this guy is cutting up an already dead fish.. its the fact that him doing that just shows how ignorant and unlawful he is. You think this same guy would refrain from keeping a 30" untagged red? If he gets away with the tarpon, sure why not. |

There are many anglers that put their ego and macho in neutral, and do the sporting thing to give a great game fish a chance to live and fight another day.
Lots of tarpon were killed on the Texas mid-coast during the 1920s to 1950s -- and they USED TO call Port Aransas , Tx.-- Tarpon, Texas
Bringing one to gaff and hand -- just to say I did it -- is not a big deal to me, especially if it means a dead Tarpon.
Breaking them off is fairly standard practice in Florida where Hammerhead predation is a big problem on exhausted fish.
Shark bait -- pretty easy to build a weak link into your leader system to facilitate breaking one off -- but it sounds as if you are not interested.

again how do you break 100pound braid, or 110pound tooth proof wire?(i have had to break off 65 and 80 pound braid both times i got hurt when it finally gave)
these fish are ripping off 500yards of line in a minute flat..
you ever heard of PTTS?
those guys kill tarpon!
and no im not interested in purposefully breaking off a fish of a lifetime.. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

hate to say it, but those are the kind of comments that make me think people are just jealous when others have great fishing days..
put some baits out and hook your own (it will cost you $6 to get on bob hall and slide line) _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured
