After spending $100 on new coolers every 2 years, three years ago I went out and sprung for the 155qt Yeti. I still have it. It has gouges in the side of it from all of my gear hitting it as I bounce down through the High Banks, grease marks from my generator smashing into it and some green scuffs on the top of the cooler from my shovel pounding on it. But inside, it is brand new. I have found it keeps ice longer because it darn near creates a vaccum every time you close it (we've had to open the drain plug a few times to release the pressure just to open it...it seals that tight). But besides that, I know I will never have to buy another cooler the rest of my life-- I can clean it with anything I want to, I can leave it in the sun, I can smash it around...nothing breaks. Plus, I can stand on it, sit on it, bounce on it, stack anything of just about any weight on top of it... The food-grade plastic allows you to use dry ice (in fact, Yeti recommends it...try that with an Igloo...), and, from experience, it is amazing what even a pound of dry ice will do for keeping your cooler ice intact for a week or more. Anyway, I'm not trying to be a salesman or anything, but I would buy this cooler again in a heart beat. It's already paid for itself. _________________ Fish ON! |

ROBDOG, thanks for the link. I have seen a similar comparison, with the exception of the IRP cooler. Makes me like my Coleman that much more. However that IRP looks like it's built like a tank. |

Really like my 65 qt yeti. Keeps Ice long, easy to clean, extremely durable, and it vacuum seals itself. But like IMS said, KEEP THE LOCKED UP or they will (not maybe, but for sure) will be stolen! _________________ JJ |

| the first time ice goes into the Yeti it will melt fairly quickly, but once you have the cooler cold the second time you ice it down it lasts way longer than any cooler I have ever owned. It was a gift from my Father in law so I did not have to decide if I wanted to spend the extra money but now that I have one I would do it in a heartbeat. |

That applies to all coolers though, I always hose down the inside with cool water before adding ice to at least drop the temperature some. CS's point should be well taken, ice ain't all the same. Just as he said, the stuff you get in the bag is only cold enough to keep it frozen. A properly set freezer is 0 degrees F. If you have time and room in the freezer, that's a great piece of advice, and also why folks who freeze their own ice blocks in milk cartons and such get such good results. _________________ Dave

I won an Engel awhile back and its decent. I like the durability over it keeping ice. Thats what I take on the boat so I can stand on it. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

I will second Brute Outdoors. According to my ameature tests: it is as tough as a Yeti, holds ice 85% as long as a Yeti, and is under 1/2 price of of a Yeti.
So yeah, the Yeti holds ice longer, but the difference in price is what sold me. I have a 55 and a 20 quart and am going to order a 90 sometime this moth as well. |

I personally have used my 80qt Engel and 35 qt Engel and they ride in the bed of my truck EVERYWHERE i go bouncing around in the heat and they keep my stuff cold for days on end without refilling them with ice. Also the good thing is that it does not say YETI on it so people are less likely to mess with it. But i do keep mine on a 5/16 stainless braided cable pad locked to the truck.
Not trying to advertise or even make a profit for that matter. I work for an electrical supply house in town and we have an account where we buy Engel Coolers wicked cheap. We only have this account strictly to buy this stuff at cost for ourselves, we really dont even sell much, 90% is from what we at the office buy. But if any of you are interested in an Engel ice chest let me know I will pass on the savings for my fellow anglers. Only catch is I have to hit a $500 order for freight allowed, which can usually be done with 2 coolers. So if anyone is interested let me know. _________________ Casey

They are coming out with a new design with upgrades in Oct. My thinking is they will be more like the yeti and still alot cheaper. _________________ Salad, Salad, everywhere and not a bite to eat. |

| I have been using one that I got for free from work. I really like it especially the durability. I usually dont get much life out of normal latches and hinges before I have to upgrade to something from the hardware store. Cracking at the corners is always a problem too with the igloos and colemans. I also always put quite a bit of ice back in the freezer for the next trip while using the yeti. Of course as already stated starting with a cold cooler and good ice makes a huge difference, so does having a gasket. That being said, would I pay $300 for one? I am still up in the air but am leaning toward yes at this point after using the yeti more and more. As I see how it holds up long term I may add more yetis to my cooler inventory. I also like that I can use it as a stool while loading stuff on top of my suburban. |

What?!?! Where? I need to go there!!
I also found out that you can sign up for Austin Kayaks newsletter and get occasional 20% off coupons that work on Yetis w/ free shipping or store pickup. Although you still pay tax. _________________ -Dave

Scratch and dent is 30% off retail, was there two weeks ago and supplies are very limited.
here is the deal, if for any reason you are not happy with your yeti you can return it. They sell them as used. They also have some defective ones, on the bottom of ALL these units in red it says no warranty not for resale etc... some people have been buying them and removing the red lettering somehow and selling them on internet etc... so be careful there is no warranty on them.
Call the main office and ask what they have available and they will check for you.
The guy who invented Yeti and the company HQ is in Austin East of 35 on a little obscure side street between 5th and 7th if I remember correctly? |

I have a yetti for when I do BBQs and need something to keep briskets etc cooled and not clog the refridg. It is as good as advertised in terms of keeping temps. I have crappy igloos for the boat (fish and drink box) and for a day of fishing they are fine. The big issue for me at least is weight. When you are tired from a day on the water and hopefully have a haul of fish those yettis are just way to heavy to take out. Before you buy imagine all the times it goes on and off the boat. Killed it for me. _________________ Wish I Were in Baffin |
