Now I know most of y'all don't like seeing dolphins. However, my daughter wants to see dolphins in the wild. Do you know an area that is constantly visited by dolphins? I owe her this much for putting up with my fishing every trip to CC. Thanks in advance.

The park at the end of Charlie' pasture in Port A. they ride the bow wake of ships coming through. Also around the marina there too. In the channel I mean. Wink

One problem is in some areas people have feed them and now they associate a boat and "fisherman" with food and they will literally follow the boat and steal your trout as you reel it in.

I experienced this while wade fishing by port aransas and one actually grabbed my stringer and gave me the scare of my life, I thought a shark was getting me. Lol

Dolphins seem to be trout thieves. I remember my father lowered down a stringer when I was a kid. I was watching the trout swim on the stringer, when a gray flash swoop by. Told my father what I saw and he pulled up a 29 inch trouts lips. Haha, he was mad, but I got a cool memory.

They have been thick this summer, shouldn't be too difficult. The dolphin tours cruise the Lydia Ann frequently.

Why do we hate dolphin? Cuz when we see them, we can almost pack up and call it a day.. Dolphin or porpoises are eating and chasing away the fish that we are trying to catch.. Its very easy to understand.. And yes, they scare the hell out of me.. But I am also afraid of horses.. JK, but seriously, I am..

yeah, the kids love seeing them. usually when we're coming back from down south, we'll see them pop up in the middle of the channel. I'll slow down to about 10 MPH, so the boat is throwing a big wake, and about 50% of the time, the dolphins will start cruising in the wake.

I was fishing the canals at night last weekend and at about midnight three dolphins started crashing the lights eating fish all around us. You would hear them in the darkness take a breath and see a huge wake coming. It was awesome to see but the wakes they made were rocking the kayak pretty good. Never seen anything like it.

When they are around on a dark night it's darn right surreal until you figure out what's going on. When they're close by and just surfacing for air without any other antics the sound made from their blow hole is a dead ringer for a deer snort!!!! Shocked

Anywhere around Port A provides a good opportunity to see these critters.

The Shrimp channel generally has them day or night. For story sake, many night floundering in shrimp channel do the lights on boat illuminate them crusing with me. Interestingly, they feed sideways, um, shim on their side. They will cruise along in the light, and then hit the after burners for a meal. I had one recently swim at me as I was in front of boat, and when it came to boat, it lunged in the air. I thought we were about to have dolphin in the boat.

Anyway, the most acrobatic ones I have seen have been when crossing on the ferry from A.P. to Port A. As you approach Port A side, look ot the left and the first point you see is a prime spot for their gymnasitics. Hope oyur daughter is able to witness them.
