when putting 33's on the jeeps, do you have to re-gear as well or does it still keep it's stock power and what not?

I can't speak for him, but the Rubicon comes from the factory with 4.10 gears and Dana 44's front and rear.

I probably won't have to re-gear mine, but a slight re-calibration of the speedometer might be in order.

33's are fine. When you start pushing 35's you need to consider re-gearing. I am running 315/70/17's on my 2012 which are 34.7" and it has no problem turning them or pulling my 21' Skout. In 2012 they changed motors from 2011 and increased 80+ HP. Bighead has the 4.0 straight six which is a great little motor and will do just fine with 33's. You just need to remember to add about 10% on you speedo when driving unless you buy a programmer to correct it. Having the 410's is just what you need for 33's.

The new V6 is a lot smoother than the old I6. That being said, my jeep has no electronic ANYTHING, save ignition, and maybe the radio. No traction control, no anti-roll control, I think it may have anti lock brakes...that's about it.

The only thing I dislike is I wish it was an Unlimited model, but the wife unit said no yellow, no red, and had to be a manual transmission...every unlimited we found that was a Rubicon and Manual trans was, you guessed it, RED or YELLOW!

I have a 98 Sahara that I use for Surf Fishing.

4" suspension lift
33" x 12.5 BFG All Terain tires (drop pressure slightly when heading down island)
Body Armor front and rear bumpers.
Front bumper has a receiver that I insert a 6-rod holder. The rear bumper has a set up for a Hi-Lift jack and supports for two gerry cans. I also have a cargo basket for the rear.
I also installed a high impact differential cover on the front just in case I hit something while in those deep ruts.
I have a 9,000 lb winch and anchor - just in case. Self recovery.
I carry a by-pass serpentine belt (this is based on experience) and tools to replace.

This set up works for me. However, if I try to carry too much my jeep gets heavy. I am considering a small trailer with fatter tires to pull behind when going further down on the beach. The intent is to hopefully float the trailer on the sand while being pulled. I'm not totally sold on the trailer idea yet - still thinking and researching.

Don't do it all at once. As time goes on you, will get ideas and you will wind up personalizing your jeep. Upgrade as you go.

You'll have a blast !!!!

I have a 02 wrangler and have been down to port mansfield jetties many times with out getting stuck. I have 31''goodyear wrangler at tires(the biggest you can put on without a lift kit. 2'' front hitch for basket rod holder, good
quality roof rack, you'll need a gas can if ya gota 6 cylinder and go to the jetties.
You start adding all that other stuff and your gas mileage will suffer.Oiltrell
did my undercoating. Smile

I have a yellow 2006 Wrangler Unlimited sport with no mods. I haven't even come close to getting stuck even when going back to YP on questionable days. I even tow a kayak on a trailer too. I think the key was adding 4x4 and the locking diff. I haven't replaced the tires because we drive from Austin and the factory tires seemed to do just fine on the interstate and soft sand. Mod what you want, but I certainly don't think any are necessary. I've also pulled out a few stuck trucks too. It is a really fun and capable beach ride albeit very noisy ride on the freeway driving into a headwind.

Haha I can relate. I slow down to about 50mph (reads 45mph on the speedometer due to the 33's) going over the JFK headed to the island in the new Lil' S Wagon 4 cylinder Wrangler. But on the way home I can approach 67 mph with the wind.

I would think the old 4 bangers jeeps and the inline 6 would be better on the sand torque wiseans lighter in weight

Looks like a League City jeep found it's way south. To recalibrate your speedo after a lift and new tires, you just install a speedometer gear. Very simple.
