i am gonna take one of my bay poles offshore btb with me next time and try and land a king on it or get spooled trying, i have caught kings and ling on basically the same thing before from a PB
choices are
#1 curado 50e wth 15 pound braid (low line capacity, but the most drag)
#2 symetre 4000 with about 150yards of 14pound mono(this is similar to what i have used before, every run takes you a few yards from being spooled)
#3 sonora 4000 with almost 300 yards of 10pound braid(cheapest reel, lightest line, biggest capacity)
yall choose gonna put one king in the yak then put out the light rod with a squid rig with loose drag and see what happens
haywire twist king rigs
short video of how i make my king rigs, have had some questions so i figured i would show instead of trying to explain

i left it in so i could put it on the table mount, don't know if it matters or not but i still dont have the class 10 SD card yet
you definitely have to rinse off the waterproof housing after using in salt water, mine kinda took a beating... _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

No problem landing the fish you speak of on such gear, but you might need to think about the others on the boat............................ the longer that it takes to bring a fish to gaff the more tangles you will be causing for those who are fishing around you, and even though on the other side of the boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a huge waste of time and a darn good way to loose a nice fish, because when the mates have done their best but others need them to continue gaffing and such, SOMEONE'S line will be cut just to end the time wasting melee!!!!! _________________ Dave

I took a little garcia out btb to try the same thing. It was a blast. They were coming out of the water smacking top waters. I really prefer the light tackle over just horsing them in. The biggest i got from the yak was 51 inches. Saw metal on the spool. It was great!
