I was down the majority of last week and the fishing was great. Fished the surf Wed and Thur and caught one of the biggest stringers of fish of my life( I personally caught 15 trout over 20 inches in those two days).
Pulled up to Clem's Thursday afternoon to clean some fish and Mike Singleterry was sharing the table with me. He had a nice stringer and some happy clients. First time I've ever met Mike and glad I did... nice guy. He probably got a good chuckle at my expense when my electric fillet knife crapped out on me after 1/2 a fish. Luckily they were all trout and a regular fillet knife worked just fine.
Fishing was good near fish pass(bayside) Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but the size of the fish just doesn't compare. I swear I caught a 19in surf trout that weighed 2 lbs heavier than a 19in girl from the bay. Also the surf trout seem to be much whiter in color.
All in all an extremely good trip... 89 fish cleaned in 6 days, with a little help from some friends... Lots of friends got bags of fish this week. Enjoy the fishfry gentelmen...
Can't wait for some light wind to return and I'll be back to my spot on the beach... _________________ 1.2.3,4,5. once i caught a fish alive.

It was a pleasure to clean fish with you and visit some. You guys did well
and you could not have picked better conditions to fish.
Electric filet knives are not as good as they were, I had the same problem
you did last week. I sure wish American Angler would start making the saltwater knife again.
Hey John...next time your down get in touch we'll go get a beverage.

John's addiction, What kind of rig and bait were you using to catch the surf trout? If you don't mind be asking.
I threw everything I had at them that thursday after the storms, everything but live bait at them and I got skunked!
I consider myself pretty much a surf fishing newby and beginner so I'm trying to pick every successful anglers methods to help me actually catch some'em in the surf.
I understand if you don't want to disclose you methods but just remember, "Imatation is the most sincerest form of flattery" _________________ "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son." |

Topwaters did ok.
Silver spoon did ok.
Croaker on a carolina rig was the ticket. We caught 20 fish on 24 baits on Thursday morning. I would have preferred to free-line the bait, but gulls around Corpus are smart. A 1/2 ounce barrel weight was almost too much weight, because I like to walk with the bait down the gut; kinda waiting for a bite. You do need a shock leader for some of the more toothy critters in the surf. I use 20lb fluorocarbon and I check that leader after every fish. _________________ 1.2.3,4,5. once i caught a fish alive.

THANK YOU! is exactly what I need. Looks like I really need to start using live bait in the surf and hopefully we will see another day like that Thursday!
From what I've read days like that, when the gulf goes placid, are few and far between. _________________ "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son." |
