| I have some rust on my truck that I need to get taken care of before it gets any worse. I have no experience with body shops around here and was hoping for a recommendation or 2. Preferrably from people who have used the shop not just know the owner and trying to help a buddy out. |

There is no repair for rust. It has to be cut out and replaced. Once it starts it like cancer. You can put it into hiding but it will return. Rust or corrision needs to be dealed with as soon as it starts. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

If it is light surface rust it can be sand blasted or wet sanded then primed with a rust coversion primer then repainted.
However, if you live anywhere near the coast it will be a constant battle with rust, and rust never sleeps.
Laying on a protective sealent or undercoating can help a lot, but most shops charge out the nose to do it. I know that there are several businesses in the CC area that offer that service. _________________ "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son." |

The neat thing about steel or iron from the time it is poured out into a slab, ingot, or whatever, it has this natural ability to revert back to its original state. Steel has no patina or any natural ability to fight back at the elements. We can slow it down by painting it, oiling it, or put it in a place that is absent of salt, heat, and humidity. IMS is slowly reverting back to dust. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Do it yourself Flour Bluff style paint and body work done by me LOL! Luckily my Suburban is white with no clear coat mica flake finish.
Before after digging out some beach cancer
After a cheesy application of Bondo and minimal work with a grinder and some white rustoleum primer. The grinder is way easier than trying to do it with a pad sander. It may not be perfect but close enough for government work.

I can give them a huge thumbs up as well. My new truck got hit in a parking lot and I 'discovered' it...they made my truck look like brand new.

Most shops will give you a less than warm feeling about Rust repair, unless it is a warranty type situation they will likely not want the work and will quote high.
This town has a reputation far and wide for cancer cars, I've listened to comments from shops in Austin and even as far away as Eugene Oregon.
I like others have mentioned cut out the entire effected area and weld in new metal, treat with Ospho and paint quickly. This is as mentioned by others merely a stay, eventually the vehicle will be dubbed a beach vehicle.
My personal experiance is with classics and hot rods, owners af this type of vehicle are very picky however they understand the reality.
Something my 37 years here I have learned, never break the surface of a new vehicle. Add-Ons typically require drilling and this will be your first rusting location, this includes un-needed sanding for paint, surprisingly people do this.
Cannot recommend any shops, never been completely satisfied with any here in the coastal bend. (But then I'm very Picky) |

I've used this guy twice, once to install and match paint for a wing on my wife's car, and another time for collision repair. My dad had some rust damage on his Wrangler replaced by Galvan as well. He takes a little longer than bigger more well known shops, but his work is pretty good and he works with you on cost. I don't have any complaints. In fact, I'd recommend him too... |
