Forecast looked horrible all weekend, (wind, wind, and more wind) and it was my weekend off call so we headed to Lake Mathis to fart around with some catfish. We kept about 20 blue cats up to about 5 - 6 lbs each for the freezer I hooked up with something big yesterday morning, it would run for awhile, and then I would gain some ground on him, then he would take back everything i just got back from him and then some I fought him for a good 15 minutes before we even got a look at him, it was a flatty and a pretty damn big one for medium tackle (7' 2 piece medium action Ugly Stik, Penn Fierce 4000 spooled w 15# Big Game) he did not like the looks of my friend and I who were standing in the water awaiting his arrival and made another good run, my buddy kept telling me "don't horse him, don't horse him" I lost a nice Red trying to get a little too aggressive awhile back and that lesson is still fresh in my mind so I took my time with this fish. After an approx 20 minute battle we got him up in the shallows (no freaking net!! ) my buddy Spicoli grabbed him behind the head and we proceeded to weigh, measure and snap some pics
And the release
Sorry it's not saltwater related but who doesnt like to look at fish?? LOL, we'll be hitting up the salt soon _________________ "Those of us that had been up all night were in no mood for coffee and donuts, we wanted strong drink.
