A friend of mine grows potatoes in the seaweed. Hi rinses it on his driveway, makes a 2 foot cylinder about 4 ft tall out of concrete wire, stuffs it full of seaweed and sticks the "Potato eyes" into the seaweed thru the holes in the wire. He says it grows the best potatoes.

Besides the fact that it provides all of the nourishment for the beach including endangered/threatened shorebirds that are migrating through the area right now.

If you have a salt -water aquarium, that seaweed has the coolest fish you will ever see. Sargassum fish are related to angler fish (think Nemo in the dark trench). The sargassum fish are brown/gold camo and have a little flag that pops out of the nose they can wave around to attract little fish. Then they inhale them faster than you can see it!

Shake those clumps of weed when you lift them out of the water... you might meet the coolest little seamonster ever. When I get home I'll post a photo of one in my tank.

Yeah, we caught one of those sargassum fish back when I was a kid, and put it in my aquarium. It ate everything else in the tank. They can swallow a fish as big as they are. It took me 6 months to collect all the different fish I had in the tank from around the area, and less than 2 weeks for that fish to eat them all.

The most interesting thing we found was a little yellow sea slug with blue antenna and stripes down its side.

That's right, there are nudibranchs in there too.

Here's a pic of the Sargassum fish, and yes, you have to place him with larger fish, or at least fish that will stay away from them.
