I asked one guy that had his team logo on his shirt with one of those blow up life vest on............. So, when you fall in 6 inches of water do you have to stand up to pull that CO2 thing then lay back down????? I just got a stare, but everybody else laughed |

i limited out also and used way less fuel. Pretty sad saying that the only way you can cacth fish is by burning and ruining fishing for others, plus you had to run all the way to Alazan, ha ha. No sport in that at all. THATS MY OPINON.....IMS. i'M ALWAYS ON THE WATER. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

and here is mine. lmao
first, your 100% wrong on your comment "pretty sad saying that the only way you can cacth fish is by burning fishing for others. no sport in that at all" I have and can catch fish using any method. Second we are hunting fish not sitting in one spot waiting for them to come find our bait.
second, yesterday we burned ~200 plus dollars in fuel and NOT ONCE did we kick up any mud or gras BUT we did see 4 boats, one of which we stopped and help get them off a sandbar. They all were kicking mud & grass up like all get out.
third, a TOWER BOAT won over $80,000 in cash and a brand new Majek Extreme boat, motor and trailer today at the HT Series Redfish Tournement. That being said as long as its legal i think MOST would use whatever they could to make it easier to find fish if $80,000 is on the line.
and the comment about you burning less gas and you didnt have to go to Alazan. Awesome!
Gotta go....gotta get my kayak ready for tomorrow. Have a great night!

When I was down three weeks ago, I saw one of the black tower boats running the channel on the north side of the causeway. But since I don't live there, that's the only experience I've had with one. So...
...as a member of the crew of this black tower boat, explain the rationale of what's going on out there. No feelings for the other guys that want to enjoy the resource?
In my world out here in West Texas, some folks like to put towers on their pickup trucks and drive around and look for deer, so I'm aware of the mindset. At least with the deer tower trucks, it's done on private land and doesn't impact the hunter on public land trying to enjoy a public resource. |

i dont care if your in a kayak, airboat, jet boat, tower boat, ship, a $500 boat or $5,000,000 boat and your jacknut....you need a arse whipping period! I actually have 4 buddies who have tower boat down here. Two which are jet black(there is another guy who i dont know who has a black tower boat) and i can tell you 100% that these 4 guys are not jacknuts. They follow all rules and running tower boats are not illegal. Two of which are guides.
I have seen my share of jacknuts while on the water. I have had guys pull up to us while catching fish and ask us where they could find some fish. I have seen tons of jacknuts tearing up seagrass and mud. I have been cut off while wading when a boat came within 40 yards and didnt care one bit and on and on and on....This is why i prefer to fish weekdays and not weekends with all the weekend warriors who dont know krap.
what i am saying is that there is way more people to be mad at than a tower boat hunting for redfish that is following all TPWD rules.

| A bunch of whining about this(and people who insist on doing it) will land on ears that will get sick of hearing it, and they will no-motor the heavily used portions of the laguna in a swift stroke of the TPWD pen, except for established channels, and you'll all be poling and paddling. Stock up on trolling moter batteries guys. |

Funny, I find my fish without the tower. Its called knowing how to read the water. The view is great from a deerblind I prefer to hunt on the ground. That makes it a sport. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

The game is the same with the deer tower trucks...drive around until you can bust the deer out of cover. Then start slinging lead. The finer nuances are left behind...food, trails, scrapes, stealth...caving to the temptation to use the newer, badder toy. We, as men like that stuff, but sometimes we have to temper it with a little common sense.
Tailchaser, sometimes being legal to the letter of the law is not always the same as being ethical. We've established that crazies come in all forms and drive all types of boats and cars and have shifted the focus onto other groups of rude users. But that doesn't answer the questions that I have asked.
What's the mindset out there? |

I think BigRock deserves an answer to his question regarding your mindset when "hunting" fish but ruining everyone else's day on the water. I agree w/ BigRock that legal does not equal ethical. And besides that, the law reads that it is illegal to harass fish. So my understanding is that while the boats may not be illegal, the methods employed by the users of the boats are. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Its not the size of your tower that matters, it's how you use or abuse it. Fishing for many has developed into a competitive sport where prize money and the glory of winning is the main objective thanks to the sponsors and the need for people to feel that they are better at something than the rest. It's human nature. Some egos just need the thrill of winning so they will turn any activity into a competition.
The bottom line - Boat manufactures and those who supply the add-ons will continue to push the envelope to run shallower and provide more gadgets that will give the angler an edge to catching more fish. As long as TPW allows this type of fishing it will continue. If it was legal, we would probably see the hog hunting style helicopters cruise the Laguna for schooling fish and send gps coordinates to the boat crew. All in the name of winning, which drives the egoic mind of any sport enthusiast.
Fishing allows my mind to be temporarily present in the moment, free from the world of stress and worry and it seems inconceivable why anyone would want to spent an excess amount of money to stress out about trying to win a few thousand dollars. I can only hope that the uber tournament mentally will eventually fade away.
Enjoy your type of fishing. _________________ Don't let them take the Flour out of the Bluff! |

keep pushing this issue of "harrasing fish" and see where we end up.
.... itorna's example is a good one... how is driving a boat a spooking fish harrassing, but jabbing a sharp pointed hook through their lips and pulling back to the boat to against their natural will, and sometimes filleting them while still alive NOT harrassing?
People have been sightcasting fish for decades. It seems like the issue is rudeness, not the tower boat. I know several people that have towers and platforms on their boats and try to stay away from other boats in general. Where is the line drawn? someone is looking for fish to sightcast in their tower, but if a school is spooked it's unethical? who decides ethics?
Are we going to start ranting against spear fishing next, since that is the epitomy of "hunting fish"?
IF people are cutting me off or invading my area while I fish, I could care less if they have a tower or a jonboat with a trolling motor pushing it.... it's the person driving the boat that's the problem, not the boat itself. This is no different than blaming guns for murder or spoons for being fat.
