I found a 10 acre tank (Texas for pond) thats stocked with Bass, Brem and Tilapia. I can catch the Bass on plugs and the Brem on little spinners but I can't get the Tilapia to hit anything. I snagged a 3 pounder behind the dorsal with a jerk bait so I KNOW it's Tilapia. The water's clear and I can see some that must be 5 - 6 pounds. If anybody knows what I can use (besides dynamite, a cast net or a bow and arrow) I'd sure appreciate a little help. Thanks in advance ,

Are they fed? Have you tried using that? Have you tried using a carp-type dough bait? Don't get me wrong, I have never caught a tilapia. Just brain storming... _________________

You need to go buy some small fresh water size 2 hooks and bait em with live night crawlers (worms). Cut them in half and fish em either free lined or under a popping cork. That should do the trick. _________________ Fish till the day you die...then you can fish in heaven. |

Since they are intentionally stocked, are you still required by law to remove and kill everyone you catch? I would think the law would still apply, but its interesting. Anyway, tilapia are basically big azz cichlids, and I got a few nice cichlids to bite tiny little curly-tail grubs like you use to catch crappie. Maybe try the same on the tilapia. I have cast netted them from the rio grand on back to back blind tosses, big ones too....hmmm??? _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

I made a fly one time out of a small piece of foam from the inside of a cushion. Cut it to match the size of commercial fish food if they are being fed. I've used it at catfish ponds and other ponds and its deadly if they are fed commercial food.
Looks like a small piece of bread though so you have to be careful around ducks. |

Get the ole crank telephone box, snake the positive and negative wires down into the water (about 12 inches apart) and start cranking!!! Ignore the black eyes...fish is still FRESH!! _________________
