I have heard of this come up, but what effects does Ethenol Addictive have on side effects on boat motors?
Is there a better Engine Oil than Mag 1 I should be using on my Johnson 8hp motor?

I have a 6 gallon tank on my Jon Boat and I typically only fill it half way.
Question being is that on cold starts my motor seems to lighty miss and once its warmed up and placed in gear I'm good.

I checked the 2 plugs and both seem fine.

Thanks in Advance.

I've been adding stabile marine additive (blue one) and have had little problems since. Have also been trying to get gas from Rudy's. No ethanol.

Starbrite fuel additive works great. So does Stabil Marine fuel additive. Read about "ethanol and phase separation", that way you know what's going on in your fuel tank. IMS Very Happy

Yes, both do work, but the Stabil Marine had more of what's needed in it......hence the higher price. It's worth every penny!!!!

If you never use more than half a tank then it might be smart to get a smaller tank. The more air space that's allowed to remain in the tank the higher the condensation level taking place. I did this too: I now own a 9, 6 and 3 or 4 gallon tank and use the one that I need for the job. That's why it's SOP for fuel tank/fuel maintenance to fill all tanks at the end of use; boat, lawn mower, whatever. Vehicles don't usually sit for long periods between use so the problem isn't usually anywhere near as large.

I know the website says it does. But have you tested it?

I use marine eth stabil treatment with every drop of e-10 that goes in my boat.. zero issues.. YET

Stoner150 told me the Chevron at Waldron and SPID and that Rudy's off of Airline and SPID both have ethanol free gas.

Do the newer motors need the treatments? My new (new to me) rig has an '07 HPDI Vmax 225. The previous owner said he was only running ring free, no additives for ethanol...do I need to start running some kind of treatment for ethanol?

Here is some reading material.....

http://www.evinrude-parts.com/boat_ethanol_danger_precaution.html

Really doesn't make any differencs what brand motor you run, that ethonl still can damage them all if you run it and don't take precautions.

This is the additive I've been running for over a year with no problems.

thanks for the tip, I filled up with gas from Rudy's on the way out but it sounds like I need to be filling up on the way in. I'll try to run ethanol free only but know that won't always be the case so I'll pick up some ethanol stabil.

found this site and it lists four stations in CC reported by them as "ethanol free" including the chevron on the corner NE corner of Waldron and SPID.

The boat also has a filter/seperator, any recommendations on how often to change it?

Guys,
What you doing with any of Ethanol treatments is trying to prevent the crap from separating and sinking to the bottom of the tank. It turns into a gel which will reek havoc on carburetors, fuel injectors and your wife's happiness ! I work in the Powersports industry and we see this time and time again, it will literally clog or ruin a dirtbike or ATV carburetor within a few months if left setting. It's corrosive and will etch metals once it dries out.

They say to keeping your tank 90-95% full will help. I say, unless you are refilling at least once a month, that will not prevent Ethanol separation from occuring...In short, the stuff is terrible for 2-strokes, in particular. Very bad for all the rest of the engines that have to run it !

A mercury mechanic just recommended the mercury fuel treatment over startron or stabil, his comment which I thought made sense is that the others are made to work in everything from boats to cars whereas your factory product is made to fit your specific type of motor. Wasn't any more expensive than the startron I was using previously so I switched.
