Took the dog for a five mile walk at Malaquite. Lots of Sargassum in the water. Saw one winter Texan come down to try his luck fishing. I was going to tell my wife that I bet that guy won't be there when we get back and five minutes later I turned around and he was already gone having given up.
You know how it is, you have guests from out of town with you and they think "Come on we can at least try to fish". Then you sort of mutter to yourself "Hey kid this isn't my first rodeo"

Strange but true historical fact that sons of Vikings are apt to walk the dog for five miles at a time, just goofing off with the wife, at the edge of the ocean, happy to be there, with eyes wide open.
I think it is going to be a good season out in front.

Hey Guys,
I was working (near the beach) in SoCal Jan-Feb of this year. I'm now working (near the beach) in Taiwan until the end of May. I would SOOO love to be able to get stuck on God-Blessed PINS and catch no fish right now! Please do not take the liberties that we Texans have for granted. Padre Island is a Texas treasure that we must cherish and protect.
...OK, I'll get off my soap box now... |

A trip down island kinda looked the same. Dredging at the channel is leaving a pretty heavy silt line for quite some distance. Weed was clearing up in spots, but as soon as you find a clear patch, in washes more. Only other vehicle down the beach said they had 2 reds, and a few hardheads. A few jacks visible in the surf (where visibility was better than 1/2") and whiting abound. _________________ Some people fish their entire lives without ever knowing that it is not fish that they are after...I'm not one of these people. |

I'm going down island again when I get home. Mankind cannot be defeated by the evil deathweed so quickly. The good fight must be fought, let the pins suffering begin soon! _________________ Protect Padre at all costs for future generations to use and enjoy and never forget our freedoms aren't free.

Eeek..
I've done hard time with the Sargassum in the past. Heading down from San Antonio even knowing what to expect, hoping I would find a clear spot just to come back with not much but itchy skin. If I had a kayak, however, I'd prolly stake out some flat water and anchor up on the far side of the sandbar...do some jiggin..
