My son and I and a few friends took a trip to Padre. We arrived Wed night to find the worst conditions. Blowing sand looked like fog. Thursday the wind trashed the tent. Waves were the worst but I kept grass off a line long enough to catch this nice pomp and a red.
Thursday night there was an unpredicted high tide all the way to the dunes.
Fri. and Sat. were calmer. Sat we caught 4 more pomps by dragging lines past the 3rd bar with the kayak. Kobin caught a pomp fishing from the kayak with a 8 lb rig, then he got spooled and broke off by something.
There are some great dunes right behind the 4WD sign.
Sunday, some bait fish came in and there was activity but we didn't get any keepers.
We also caught small black tip sharks, whiting, hard heads, and one blue fish on double drop rigs with shrimp or cut whiting.
The best time to go fishing is when you have time. We all had a great time. L |

To where did you retreat?
I've wondered how folks handle it when they are awakened by waves rolling into the tent. |

| In the above picture, the waves have pushed us above the 4WD sign. We thought we were good 'till one last big wave soaked the already destroyed tent with their cloths and sleeping bags. Then it was a 3 hour trip into Corpus to wash and dry everything. They slept in the cars the rest of the trip. With a hard North wind blowing most of the time, and with one stepping on a nail, we had just enough tequila and caught just enough fish to have a good time in spite of the conditions. Can't wait to get back. |
