Well, time to review the Xmas list and am thinking about having a go at one of those LDX rods. What has been your experience with them -- I know Nick makes outstanding stuff but my concern is this: being a mediocre caster (at best), is this rod too upscale for me or will it be of assistance (I know technique has alot to do with it but am looking for anything that can improve my catching percentage Very Happy ) in getting my bait to yonder fishes?

By the way -- if my bonus comes through, I should be sitting in a new Kayak come the New Year -- Yahooooo!

It's a great rod for tossing lures at Jacks and all around surf rod for lobbing 4 to 5 ounces of weight plus fishbites and shrimp for pomps at long distance or for slot reds, bull reds etc. I have an 11'9 Breakaway and the LDX is even lighter than it.

Appreciate the info Tyler -- guess I would want to put my 20 SHV on it as it sounds like my 50 could be a little big (may have to save for the HDX on my Birthday)? Is it an easy rod to control when reeling (concerned about the long rod butt)? Thanks again.

Yes, the 50 is way too big. I would go with a 20 or 30 if you want conventional with no levelwind. Otherwise I might put on a 700 Calcutta or 7000 Abu.

I am a newbie also but even with lack lack of skill the LDX made a big difference in the distance I get when casting. The large butt was a real plus 'cause of the leverage it gives when casting. BTW, I am using a 20SHV on it and it seems like they were made for each other.
