Well, The guys and I are back from our yearly PINS fishing trip, and I'd like to share some pics. This year's trip was from the Sept. 12th - 16th, 2010.

We arrived on PINS on the 12th and noticed all the sargassum on the beach. Hoping that the beach would get better, we headed past the 20's to see if there was any less sargassum further down. The dirty water and sargassum seemed to end around the 25mm. I couldn't believe it no sargassum and clear water, especially with all the hurricane/tropical storm talk. We were all getting pumped for a good fishing trip. All that was left to do after that was look for a good spot. After finding some birds and bait, we ended up setting up camp around the 32mm. We talked about being near Capt. Billy's ghost spot but couldn't remember where the hell it was at the time. We caught some skippys and kayaked them out before dinner. We ate dinner and watched the Dallas Cowboys game, and checked the weather on the satelite tv. During dinner our main shark pole went off and something ran out a ton of line, but couldn't get a hook up. Oh well, time for some magarita's.

Fishing was "ON" at sunrise, Monday morning for about an hour. A pomp, a trout, a spanish mackeral, and a few reds. Later that day we some skippys, and a couple of little cats but nothing great.

After a full day of fishing, we watched some Monday Night Football, checked the weather and crashed out.

The next morning, the Gulf was as gorgeous and flat as I'd ever seen it. That made dropping bait a breeze. One of our guys stayed out for a while kayaking with some porpoises.

Later that day our shark pole start singing again, and the fight is on. We got 15 mins in before he broke free. Whatever we had on the line chomped through some braided cable. At least we got to test the new shark stand on the jeep.

On Tuesday we caught a stingray,

a red, some more skippys and small cats. Then after lunch, we hooked up on a 5'6" Bull shark. I was telling people the he was 6' until I started studing the pictures. Without the pics, I'm sure I'd be saying he was 8ft by now. LOL. Anyways, he was caught on a big mullet. I couldn't believe that we caught that shark on a mullet.

On Wednesday we caught some skippys , a red. We unburied our 5-day cooler full of block Ice, for the fish we were taking home and for the 'Ritas!

We did have several hookups and fights on the shark rod, but nothing made it to the shore. One of the hookups even pulled the rod holder off of the Jeep. The guys in our group kept joking that,"We're gonna need a bigger Jeep."

The dirty water was definitely creeping in, but still no sargassum.

On the last day I caught a big stingray and had it within a few feet of the shore before he broke the line.
After that we took down the campsite and headed home.

What a trip. I'd give the trip a 10 out of 10. Clear water for at least the first 2 1/2 days, no sargassum, no bugs, the beach was super clean, and it only sprinkled on us Tuesday night. Everyone that we talked to afterward kept assuming that we got poured on, but that was definitely not the case. As one of the guys that we met on the beach said, "Beach this good on PINS, almost feels like cheating...almost"

Till My next beach trip

Good to know, but the "Big Mullet" that we used couldn't have been over 10". Plus it's still September so we were good there too!

I guess I missed the pics of the "big mullet"! Good report and I am waiting for someone to question the measurements on the reds. Your report was concise and I enjoyed reading it. Oh yeah....how fast did you drive in and coming out(I'm on a roll)!
Sorry for the sarcasam(sp?) but sometimes....

Sorry, no pics of the big mullet, I mean who takes pictures of bait. LOL

Here's a pic us using the measuring stick on one of the reds to make sure that our reds were legal.

We went the speed limit, but made great time since the beach was awesome as you can see in the pics. There was a little bit of fluffy sand around the 25.

On the way back, lots more fluffy sand, but no worries in 4WD low.

No worries. I enjoy posting here, and wish I went down more often, and in turn could post more.

Love your sense of humor. Hope the fishing continues to improve. We are hitting it hard up North around Freeport right now and the conditions are tough. Supposed to improve by the weekend with some really good water coming in next week. Maybe even some pompano up this way. Thanks again for the report and glad you had fun!
