30# Power Pro on all of my light spinning gear with a 15# flurocarbon leader tied directly to the pp with double uni knot. My light gear consists of Okuma Epixor 30 reels on American Rodsmiths Genesis series med light 6'6" or 7' rods.

50# Power Pro on my heavy spinning gear with a 20-25# flurocarbon leader tied directly to the pp with double uni knot or a steel leader if I am targeting toothy critters like smacks. Here I use Epixor 50 reel on 8' med heavy to heavy rods.

I fish almost exclusively with lures tho. I very seldom use bait or long rods. When I do use long rods, I use one of Tyler's. Actually, I even get Tyler to wade out and cast it too. I found that it is very enjoyable to sit down, drink a beer, and let Tyler do all the work!!!! It's the only way to bait fish in my book!

30lb PP braid on my trout spinning Shimano combo, and all the rest of my rigs get 25 lb BG His-Vis (they are all 9 to 12 foot rods I use for various applications).

I use the fluorcarbon leaders in the surf but again I am fishing with lures. I prefer only 15# test because it is not too stiff and allows for the best lure action. I also will use 20# and 25# on occassion.

I am a firm believer in it. I use Power pro and stuff is expensive and doesn't break easily. So I want a leader that is abrasion resistant but will break if I need it to. Also, since I fish a lot of gin clear waters, I like having a clear leader instead of the braid next to my lure. Fluorocarbon works great for me. I seldom lose a fish on it. And when I have been hung up, it broke saving me my expensive PP. It works great on anything that isn't toothy. I have caught reds, trout, flounder, snook, smacks and jacks on it. But I also have had it snipped on the hookset when chasing birds in gulf in my kayak.

As many Thanks as there are sand grains on PINS. Appreciate everyone's input on satisfying my curiosity about how other fellow surf fishermen prepare their reels with fishing line. Based on your input Mono line average 16 lbs and Braid type average 37 lbs. Personally I mostly use 14 lb. Mono.

Lite Tackle: As for leader section I use about a 28 inch length of fluorocarbon, snell knot, live bait.

Long rods:

I use 50 lb shock leader.

Again Thanks To All. Very Happy

HPD

I use 12lb BG (darker green) on my spinners and baitcasters for reds/trout/flounder/whatever. On my lager reels, which I rarely use anymore, I use 20 BG of the same color. Leaders vary, I flourocarbon for the smaller rods and steel leader for the larger ones.
