Woke up early this morning headed down south in the dark at about 05:15am. Got to our little fishing spot on the King Ranch shoreline (north badlands area) We started our wade while it was still dark, both of us chunking top waters. One she pup and one top dog jr. We experienced blow up real quick and landed two decent slot reds in no time at all. About 7:30 the action just stopped so we went to soft plastics. We quickly picked up a couple of nice flounder bouncing them off the bottom. By 9:00 the action just went dead and could not buy a strike. The reason for this posting, we are wondering, after throwing these lures all morning and not even one singe trout on our lines. We are just wondering if anyone has any reports of good trout action on lures. We are well aware anyone can go anywhere and get a box full soaking croaker, but just looking some lure reports of good solid trout action. We are heading back out in the morning and would appreciate any input. Thanks.

I would focus on all those spots you know it to be easy to catch a box full of trout by soaking croaker, and keep working those....

Was in deadmans late afternoon today and no trout. Reds on white gulps though......saw lots of drum and red schools near packery flats west end.
Forget the boathole, water stained bad and full of grass.

Thanks for the boat trip waylan!

there are plenty of trout on the north shoreline in baffin... they are just small w/ a few eaters mixed in. same can be said for the south shoreline around los corallos. don't forget about the meadows and the summer house bar. there have been some decent stringers pulled out of there in the past few months.

I was getting to fish a lot and catching a lot of trout up until two weeks ago on lures. Only got out once since, last Thursday evening and lurefishing was slow. Did find one little area holding a few trout feeding right at dark but was more skippies than trout I think. Water temps were up to 91 degrees in the area so I'm thinking that had something to do with it.

Thanks for the reply's and the honesty! It really doesnt look like many people are catching trout consitently right now.. When we docked at ramp even the guides seem to be slow on trout of decent size and quanity.
However, the next day (sunday) we did go back to that same location around marker 160 on king ranch shoreline and hit a 26 inch trout and a 31 inch red on topwaters. Again though, same result, we were in the water so early it was still dark and we were having blow up after blow up. Fish on, huge slaps and gulps all around us. After approx 7am, nothing, and I mean nothing. No matter what we threw, soft plastics, tops, mid level depths, gulps, etc.. We could not even get a strike. Wierd!! Thanks again guys and gals for your reports.

Not true, we are killing them with croakers. The really big ones don't fry up so good though.

Have had no problems with trout all year eather. Still able to catch limits almost every weekend. I hear you on the time of the bite. By 8am it seems to be over. But the trout do prefer the real food over the fake.
