MaY\Y 09 I picked up a 1988 Majek RFL, pretty well used for its age, but not in terrible shape. The bow deck was soft so we decided to rip it out and redo it, and at same time raise part of the deck and re gelcoat entire boat. The heat last summer kind of ruined working on it so it sat until about 5 weeks ago. At that point we got back to working on it pretty hard and its finally useable, about 98% complete (few lil cosmetic things left). Have run it but have not fished from it yet, that comes this weekend FINALLY!!!.

Pics When bought:

After the new glasswork/gelcoat.

Today:

Motor is a 94 model 120 Johnson, fuel tank is now under the raised deck area. 10" setback jackplate, 4 blade 17 pitch prop

Still left to do:
Get backrest re upholstered for the front of console
paint and re decal cowling
Have backrest and rod holders added to leaning post
Pick up a stiffy push pole
Replace trailer (Freshened this one up, but I want a stronger one)
gelcoat a couple of dings on the hull from previous owners poor work.

All in all I am very VERY happy with it, beats the hell out of my Carolina skiff j16. Performs great, and having less that $5000 invested in everything, I can't beat it. Took a lil longer to get done than I wanted, but it was well worth it!!

Yup, the deck itself was in excellent shape, just the bow was rotted. We ground off all the old gelcoat to expose the glass and see the wood. WIth all the extra deck we added, the floor itself got and extra layer on it as well. My Dad, my lil brother, my Uncle, and I did all the work on it, and hunted around for the accesories.. Ebay and craigslist and corpusfishing for all the goodies..

Last year we redid an 18' Majek flatbottom skiff to use as a work boat for working on and hauling material to our cabin. We finished mine up, and this winter we are doing a Baymaster scooter for my Uncle.. Little more involved as we have it stripped to a bare hull, have to build new stringers and everything.

Looks great. i wish i would have raised the deck in mine. Boy do i remember doing that i got the same boat and rebuilt it all by my self. but yours looked a lot better than mine did. i had to sand the outside down because it was painted a god alfull blue. i replaced ever thing lots of hours in rebuilding it. Thats a job don't think i want to do it again.

I just bought a 1978 Boston Whaler Montauk and would like to re-gelcoat my interior like that, can you give some info on what products you used, where purchased and any application tips.

Looks good......and very familiar!

I rebuilt/refinished a 1986 18' Redfish about three years ago. Built a raised platform, added new hatches, repainted, new motor, new jack plate, new lights, leaning post, etc.. I like the way you extended the platform all the way to the transom!
