I am headed down to SPI for a long weekend with the family. I would like to know if the 22 miles of beach between the end of park road 100, north to the Mansfield jetties is a similar type of wild experience as PINS.

Is the fishing the same? IE. Is scouting for a location the same? Does it have a deep wade gut like parts of the PINS?

I guess what I'd really like to know is is it worth the effort of hauling all my gear down or should I just enjoy the tourist aspect of SPI and wait to fish at PINS in three weeks?

thanks for the help.

Yes except there are tons of people at the south end on the weekends and you have to go about 5 mph through a mile and a half of people to make your way out. Usually, it is pretty wide open the further north you go until you get near the jetties. Also there are quite a few nudists around 11 miles up if I recall and sometimes you get an eyeful and not in a good way Very Happy Rob is down there right now maybe he will post up after today's trip. He was covered up in Jacks last week.

Didn't fish today 1hook so I don't have a good report for you. But to answer your question on the beach, it is pretty much the same as PINS but since there is less beach there are more people & lots more on the weekends. Driving isn't very good at all right now & it's further complicated, with people that don't know any better, blocking the road. Driving is usually very good this time of year but it's not too good right now. It was beautiful today but couldn't go because the work thing got in the way.

Tyler is correct on the nudies, don't bring a camera for them. Go fish up the beach hard til noon & then get back to your family. The last mile or 2 driving back late afternoon on weekends can make you want to pull your hair out.

Hope you have a great stay.

Thanks Rob, I'm planning on trying to hit it Friday morning and avoiding the weekend traffic.

Will report back!

My son and I saw a giant Manta Ray out at the end of that South Jetty. It was the size of a car! It was so awesome. This was about 3 years ago. Back then you only needed 4 wheel drive towards the end of the drive.
