Just wanted to say today is day 41 without a dip of hagen . . . or any tobacco! After 22 years, I decided enough was enough and with tobacco being a major cause of loosing my father in Jan. I decided to be rid of it once and for all. Used the patch for a week and then shifted to herbal "snuff" (smokey mountain) when the urges got too bad . . . thank God it has worked!! Feel good about it especially when the wife told me how much she respects me for the decision to quit.
For those who want to quit and are not sure . . . go for it; it can be done!! I did 2 tins a day for years!! Later. _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |

Awesome. I started dipping back in the mid 1990's to try to quit smoking. Now I do both. _________________ " Good God, somebody get me a nurse " |

Been two years for me, and I still think about it at least once a day. Won't ever touch a smokey treat again, but still think about it.
Congratulations on quitting, it's the toughest thing to do. I'm rewarding myself this year by running Beach to Bay. _________________

Which patch did you use?
I have been dipping for 36 years and have tried to quit cold turkey, but I was so miserable and irritable that my WIFE bought me a roll cause she said she couldn't take the mood swings and verbal abuse...LOL....Adios

That is awesome! More power to all you guys.... More money for bait too! The earlier you quit the better, too.
Both my parents were *heavy* smokers and eventually quit in their 50s when they started to have health issues. But it was too late. They had a nice retirement planned but lung/throat cancer got both of em way too soon. Fought it for a few years but never got to enjoy any of it.
So its always is good news to me to hear of someone quitting.

47 now and a LONG time smoker had surgery on some basal cell skin cancer last week and and have been off the smokes for a week. Dr insisted on chest x-ray before surgery and said lungs were clear. Taking that as a 2nd chance to set things right. VERY TOUGH but very worth it. Sticking to the vaporizer like Willie now. |

I used Chantix (prescription) helped out a great deal with the mood swings, and the physical withdrawl. It is still tough though.

_________________

Same. Took Chantix and within a week cigs started tasting bad. You are supossed to quit after two weeks of taking it, but it took me just 7 days. Have been quit without looking back for 9 months now.
Only drawback is you can't take chantix and drink. But really, you shouldn't drink within 6 months of quiting anyway, because it is the worst trigger out there. Now I can drink and have no urge to smoke. |

| Way to go! 2 years snuff free for me June 5th. Dipped 22 years like yourself and glad I finally did it. Took chantix for a couple of weeks and then dropped it. Still would like one but the benefits outweigh the cravings. My wife doesn't mind kissing me now. Well sometimes. Congrats and keep it going! |

Thanks for all the encouragement!! To those of you who have beaten this addiction, good on ya!! I used the Nicoderm patch to help me out but the real help came from an unlikely source: Cinammon sticks!! They helped me when I got the craving and provided me with something to chew on . . . I know it sounds funny but it worked for me. The Smokey Mountain herbal snuff is great too. It is great to have my life back again!! Good luck to anyone trying to quit -- if you need some moral support, PM me and I will do what I can if you do not have anyone around to help. _________________ "Careful man, there's a beverage here!" -- The Dude |

Way to go!!! I dipped for 30yrs and quit 5 yrs ago, started with the patch and switched to bubble gum and I'm down to 1 piece a day now. Quitting was one of the hardest things I've done, very glad I did. |
