So I have been fishing the Texas coast for way more years than I care to reveal, I have yet to hook a Snook, I here people talk about thier catch so I would think it is still possible, I gather that the numbers have declined over that the years but they are still out there so here is my question.

When is the best time? Where is the most likely place to find them? and of course How? best bait and technique, that sort of stuff, I don't really want to go all the way to Florida for this fish but I would be willing to pay a guide to help me with this quest for the allusive Snook.

Anybody here caught one around here recently?

I caught two smaller ones (14'' and 18'') late this summer at BHP...

People were also catching 'em off the packery jetties from time to time also.

Haven't caught any, but I did see quite a few laying on the beach after the red tide. I didn't see any larger than 14 inches or so. I'm not sure what kind of snook they were. It's my undersanding that there are a few different types of snook.....mostly smaller.

I never caught one until I started fishing Packery in a kayak. Now, my snook to trout ratio seems to be 1/1.

Mostly around the north jetty and under the bridge. Bait is live piggies on a popping cork near the pilings. I just let the current carry the cork near the pilings. The biggest so far is 22".

It's also my favorite place for mangrove snapper.

I was catching them duing the month of August at BHP on the end by the pillings with live mullet. I was fishing in the day time they are fun to catch.

This is great to hear, I was hopful that you guys would give me some ideas and you have, I'm just not sure why I have never caught one, I have paddled all of packery and thrown piggies, mullet and an aray of soft plastic, I'm thinking it's my technique, I'll be trying some diffent retrieves and see what happens. Idea

Never caught one, but had to hold my trigger finger more than once swimming up on a 30" fish this past summer. I consistently saw the biggest snook on the channel side of the North Packery Jetty, just near the end. Sometimes stacked up like cord-wood....... Surprised

I've heard live bait is the key. I'm always amazed at the number of fishermen casting WAY OUT on the jetties, and I try to tell them that nearly all the fish are right there at their feet... The rocks are tough to work around, but that's where all the fish are. Too bad they are a gamefish and I can't shoot them. Sad

I seen more pics up good sized snook near mangroves. and of course more so from guys in the rio grande valley. Would be nice to catch one to see what the fuss is all about.

I caught a 28 in one off the npj in the summer. I caught it on a electric chicken trout killer lure with a 1/8 once head. I was bringing it in and letting it drop and repeating it when it nailed it. It was a awesome fight. I kept thinking it was going to come off because it kept jumping. I think there is a pic of it in the packery channel section. My son and I caught alot of them around that time along the rocks with same lure.

I've caught one. Fish Pass, South Jetty, surf, pocket next to the beach, TTF trout killer, pumpkinseed / chartreuse. Maybe 18".
I am sure there are more there.

I nailed one at fish pass on a live croaker.....went 27 1/4..... didnt think id ever catch another one in the keeper range so I kept it! Three days later I caught another one on a bone top dog.....and it was released.....their at fish pass in August!
