I took my brother in law surf fishing for his b-day present.
We got on the water about 9ish.
Only a few cars out nice morning.

Live shirmp on double drop.
We set up 4 rods!!! (alot for me) and since I was the only one with waders, i got to run the baits.

Well I start catching whitting and he's not getting anything. So I am trying
to get him on a pole with action. It's just hard to tell on the small stuff.

I was hopping it would be like Monday non stop.

So he decides to wade out and start fishing in the surf to get a better chance.

I come in after casting and my rod goes over, run to the holder and set the hook. I think I caught a submarine. Nope but a real fat red!!!! (I am feeling bad he's not caught anything yet.)

Then about that time he gets a big pomp on supper light tackle. That pomp's got his rod curly cued!!! He's hooked now!!!

More whitting, more whitting, and some more whitting.

So I cut up some whitting hoping for a shark or bull red. No luck.

Put some more bait out and I land an other nice red

Then my brother in-law finds the pomps and get's two more back to back, and I pick up one also.

About 3pm the wind picks up and the weed comes in and we call it quits.

OH and to wrap up the b-day gift my wife said I should clean his fish!!!!

desperado

the "sticks" are the northern boundy of Padre Island National Seashore

you can go on the beach south from bob hall to get there

or you can drive down the high way into the National Seashore and there is a road to the left before you get to the both to pay. take the left and your on the beach

i like this part of the beach it is very family friendly and usually good driving

this section is free and no parking sticker required

Actually the north sticks are the northern boundary of the beach sectioned off on PINS that one cannot drive on. The northern boundary of PINS is acutally a few clicks north of there. They have a great interactive map but you can see the barrier is a little south of the northernmost beach front of PINS and quiet a bit south of the leeward side of the island boundary.
