Well as for the Beretta or Glock it is tough the Beretta 92 or 96 is a great weapon to shoot, I carried one for 3 yrs in the military and as long as you keep it clean and away from sand (open slide design lets everything into the action) it works great, very accurate and easy to shoot. The Glock is much more "fool proof" however if you are looking for a "Glock type" gun I would have to tell you to shoot them all. Try the Springfield XD and S&W M&P they all have great performance and are guns I would trust my life to, so shoot them all and see which one is best for you. Own a Glock and an S&W M&P and I like the Glock but love my M&P. Also look at the 1911 style pistols such as Kimber's, a little more $$$$ but well worth it. You can see/shoot all these at the Sharps Shooter but buy at Academy (if they carry it) you will save $$$$. As far as a had cannon check out the .500 S&W a little more fun than the Eagle to shoot and a hell of a lot more power. Also a decent gun to hog hunt with. Well hope it helps, if you got any questions just ask!

I prefer revolvers Taurus raging bull in 357, 41 or 44 are good guns for the money. That said I have a Ruger P89 9mm that is fun gto shoot and seems to be a decent pistol.

For playing and plinking go with good 22 auto.

I would recommend a .357 686+1 revolver for household protection. I say that because you can keep it locked and loaded and not worry about a jam. If you leave a semi auto fully loaded for a prolonged period of time you will proabably encounter a jam after the first shot. Of course you can take a couple rounds out of the mag to prevent that from happening but i use a revolver just to be safe. When it comes to another pistol i would recommend a colt or a kimber 1911 they are awesome and hold their value. I always say check academy's prices then go on the internet to txguntrader.com and gunbroker.com and compare prices. Their is rarely a need to be in a hurry to get a gun so you might as well wait around for a good deal. If money isnt a factor then just go to sharpshooter and overpay!

I meant to say smith &wesson 686 +1. It doesnt really matter the brand as long as it is stainless steel and not nickel revolver. The reason for that is you can just load it and leave it for 5 years then shoot an intruder. It will contuouslly work flawlessy and not rust.

I shoot a tactical Springfield XD in .45 and love it. Glocks are awesome but getting outdated. I liked the XD over the Glock due to the 1911 style backstrap safety, just makes me feel a little better when carrying. XDM is even nicer. The Beretta 92 is a proven gun, but mine was ammo picky and jammed when dirty. Heard the M&P was nice and Sig just came out with a P250. For concealed carry, I wish I could afford a Kimber. Spending my money on black rifles before Obama and his Clintonites get 'em.

I am a huge fan of Glocks myself. They are ridiculously easy to operate, with no external safeties to fumble with if you ever needed to shoot anything other than practice targets. I personally have never heard of a "picky" Glock either. You can put any type of ammo you want through them and they keep going bang. Dirt doesn't bother them like some of the high dollar ones, and the finish holds up great to holster wear and drops/scratches. Their record with law enforcement speaks for itself in my opinion. I own several and they all have thousands of rounds through them, and the only time I have seen a malfunction was my wife shooting my G30, subcompact .45. She managed to stovepipe it which (I hope she doesn't see this) was probably her fault for not holding the gun tight enough.

Glock hands down. Got a 9 for house so wife can use it, carry a 357 sig with all the time. C/C. Sub-compact fits really nice either on your side or in pants. Carry on my side or down my back depends on where I'm at.

Glock! Easy to operate. Extremely durable and dependable. You can spend more, but you can't get any better.

Glock 23 (or G19) for home protection and concealed carry.
Add a tactical light (glock, streamlight, surefire) to the under-frame rail during the hours of darkness.

Fun, big recoil handgun? I vote for a short-barrel Smith & Wesson model 29 of some sort. 629 Trail Boss or Mountain Gun would fit the bill nicely without being too "over the top".

I have a CHL and between 15 and 20 pistols. You know how us hill country folks are.

That said I always carry a 45 acp. The Texas Rangers still prefer the 45 acp and you can not get a better recommendation than that. When asked why he still carried a 45 with all the "new and improved" calibers out there, the old ranger replied "cause they don't make a 50". That's the secret for self protection, a heavy slow moving bullet with a lot of muzzle energy. Believe me, you will get all the "kick" you want from the 45. You can keep all of the new "hot and fast" calibers. As "personnel suppressors deluxe" they just don't do the job like the old 45. In the 45, the only gun I would consider is the 1911. The glocks are ok guns, but the 1911 is a far more proven design that the glock. We were shooting 1911's when the guy who designed glock was still pooping his diapers. You simply are not going to find better designed guns that the old original John Browning designs. I will put my 1911's up against glocks any day.

As to a small, easy to conceal, plinker type pistol, I suggest a 9 x 18 Makarov type caliber. This caliber was used by the Russian KGB and eastern Europe secret police for years. Ammo is readily availabe and cheap. They fit in the palm of your hand and a very reliable. This caliber is a proven reliable round. The guns are cheap and readily available. They are also the perfect size for easy concealment if you really want to carry a caliber lighter than the 45.
