Sorry no pics
But decided to go out yesterday for a quickie. Hit the water about one.. Not much too talk about really cold north wind and choppy water. Fished deep holes. Caught a bunch of small trout all released. Caught 2 keeper reds and 2 keeper black drum.
But this is what made the day worth going out. Was retrieving my line i was almost to the boat and i feel a tug fish on well i start reeling in this fish and it didn't feel like much then all of the sudden I felt a huge amount of weight on the line. Comes to the surface and shows me its tail it was a huge bull red estimated probably around 40-45 inches . So I keep reeling and it really didn't pull back that hard I figured he didn't know he was hooked yet. As soon as I get it to the boat I see how massive it is. And all of the sudden it was gone it let go. I was a little upset then I look down and I see I still have a fish on. Its a 15" trout.. LOL. The huge red had the trout in its mouth and it was holding onto it while I reeled it in. I was able to get the trout off and let it swim away still but It was awesome. I have heard of it happening many of times but never saw it for my own two eyes. Its probably a good thing the red didn't stay on because then I would be breaking the law by using game fish for bait.. LOL
Anyhow.. Until next time. |

I've had that happen before too Rob. I had caught an undersized trout, and as I was reeling it in, another trout came up and tried to take it. The one I had on was about 13-14 inches and the one that tried to take it was every bit of 24 inches. I was yellin at my buddy to look, but he missed it. The bigger trout let go and I reeled in and released the scarred up dink. Cool stuff - thanks for sharin the story Rob. _________________ Save the seagrass......Shoot some ducks |

Hung a little 10" trout on a soft plastic at Baffin and had a 28" trout come up and eat it. Caught just a bit of the hook barb on the 28" trout. Set both fish free. I think the little trout actually thanked me and the big trout was just PO'd. |

We had that happen once. My friend was reeling in a small trout and just as it got to the boat a huge (30 inch range) speck nailed it right in front of us. It was really cool to watch it happen. My buddies rod bent double and then the big sow released. Don't know if it was the ferocity of the strike or my buddy pulling so hard but the small trout's back bone was broken when we lifted it into the boat. We both just looked at each other and said in unison G-- D---. It was almost as big a thrill as actually catching one that big. _________________ Big Ed

Wading in the surf one day with a sringer of whiting,I felt a tug and looked toward my fish,There was a monster trout laying on top of my fish
opening and closing its mouth. Finally just sliped back in water and swam away.Hard to believe but it happens. _________________ ''ONE LAST CAST''
