to love munching on 'em!
I didn't want to crash another members thread so created this one. But I have read this information from at least four other boards!....
Since I'm not like a lot of other drum fisherman, and rarely remove the shell, I *now* figure the drum are gullible enough to munch up on other shelled and sometimes other preferred bait?
The reasons are worth checking out, to use a popular cliche. In winter time fresh crab are hard to come by but those tasty crawdads/crayfish/lake lobster/whatchamacallits may be a good bait this coming season! |

We used to use them for catching Gaspergoo at Lake CC. Also the big bass love them.
Gaspergoo is a freshwater drum, sometimes called White Drum. Good eating too. _________________ GOBZA!!!

Crawfish is my preferred bait when fishing area lakes, they seem to love them. I always have had extremly good luck when using them. Usually every fish will pick them up, as i have also caught hybrid stripers and catfish on them as well. Never thought of using them fishing saltwater as they wouldnt stay alive. I know redfish have no problems eating them. Im sure whoever has stuck there hand in a redfish's mouth would know. They have crushers in there mouth that really hurt, i've found out the hard way by sticking my hand in there mouth only to have them bite down, lets just say its not very pleasant. If anyone has used them or decides to try im curious if they would work.

For something really different, try waterdogs on your next offshore trip. Kingfish **LOVE** 'em. The only drawback is, they don't live very long in the salt, and everytime you real them back in to check on 'em, they rub their little eyes with their little waterdog hands.........Not for the squeamish......LOL

gaspergou will bite on the meat of clams or mussels whatever you want to call them, makes me wonder if drum will take to oyster meat.

Waterdog eggs hatch into tadpoles, but, unlike other truly amphibeous species of salamanders, the adults have gills and remain in fresh water all their lives. The retention of juvenile features like gills in a reproductively-mature individual is known as neoteny. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

Oh, I do know about Gaspergoo! I've caught many over the years. And the best thing about 'em? Unlike their saltwater counterparts, they are worm-free! LOL
