Friday night at 4am we had someone attempt to kick our front door in. The noise immediatetly woke me and the wife. Boy, do instincts kick in.
Tiff ran to get Kaitlyn right away and I ran towards the front door. The dog did too. She beat me their and put her head through the window curtains next to the door and barked. I was a few steps behind yelling "Get the f*&* out of here, I have a gun and ain't afraid to use it." The guy stopped immediately and ran. Never got a look at the guy.
We reported it to the police who took 45 minutes to respond.
FYI, the porch light was on, and my durango was in the driveway. They knew we were home.
Tuesday night a guy with the same MO was reported trying to get into 2 more homes and failing and then got into the third home here in SA and was shot by the home owner after he told the guy to leave and he starting coming at the home owner. The report also noted the suspect reeked of intoxicants.
All I can say is I am glad I am armed. If the guy had actually gotten inside the police sure would have been no help to us at all. They would have gotten there in time to file the reports.
The dog did her job and has been lavished with extra snacks, petting, and given a stay from last weekend's bath. _________________ GOBZA!!!

| Now that sucks! I am thinking about adding a glock or something similar to the arsenal for that very reason. |

| hey Big J, sorry to hear about it. Glad to hear all ended well however...i too live in SA, on the northeast side of town. I got the dog, some guns, and surrounded by great neighbors. As a neighbor, we have each others home and cell numbers in the event of the "red alert". Gives ya some sense of security when you hit the salt. |

Big John,
Glad you guys came out alright. We are in NE San Antonio (Northern Hills)
and there was a similar incident not too long ago here. We also have an 80# dog and I have weapons, but don't keep them loaded. Would bet the dog is the best alarm and would also give anyone trying to break in something to think about. I just might keep one of my shotguns loaded now and a little more accessable since there are no children around. _________________ Big Ed

Thats terrible to hear about. How fortunate that everything ended as it should. There is no greater power than simply standing up for/protecting what is yours. Great job _________________ Work hard to play harder!!!

Big John,
My best bud has been SAPD for 18 years. About 6 months ago we were under siege inside the loop ne sa by burgleries. I asked him if i did anything wrong when i shot a guys trunk trying to break into my truck tool box. he said yeah. you need to kill them to stop them. oh and the cops who showed up to take the report said the same thing "off the record"
I am very glad to hear all is well with ya'll.
Good hunting.

My parents live in big springs a gated community off evans road and there cars where broken into a few days ago.. The scary part is my dad's truck has a garage door opener in it and they live that door unlocked leading too the garage..
The neighborhood has security camera's but they wouldn't pull the tapes for petty car burglary.. Only for home burglary.. what kind of joke is that.. You guys remember to lock up your stuff and stay safe..
I keep a .40 cal loaded and chambered by my bedside there's a 12 ga pump in the closet and my gf has a .25 in her drawer in case im not around.. Whats it going to take for the thieves to figure out we are armed and they will be shot.. |

I keep all my doors locked all the time. I know many who only lock them at night but many invasions occur during the day. All doors leading outside have motion sensor lights, dead bolts and steal doors. Hurricane shutters also help then a gun for last resort. Right before christmas we had a young man and woman try to enter our front door and when I asked them through the wall what they wanted they said they wanted to come in and wash dishes and I told them to leave, called the cops, they talked to them down the street because they were going door to door trying to get in. _________________ Mastergunner, supporter of hardheads for state fish of Texas |

| These home invasions pose quite a conundrum, they are getting more and more widespread. On one hand you almost have to have your hog-leg or scattergun nearby and likely already loaded to be able to protect yourself in a timely fashion, but on the other if you have small children or folks in and out of the house, you can't do that because of safety concerns. I guess I just hope I can get to my weapon (s!) in time. Folks need to make a concerted effort to kill these thugs-and the news needs to cover the heck out of the folks protecting themselves, maybe the idiots will get the idea then. But as long as meth & other drugs are around there will always be nutjobs who will do unthinkable acts of stupidity. |

Several years ago some low life tried to break in my house. He trashed my screen door and started at the main door, did minor damage and left. I was glad too because it would've been a pain in the azz cleaning up all the blood & guts off the house - I did not say a word or warning as I was waiting for him with my double side barrels. Hehehe, I did call 911... as I waited for a kill shot, hehehe. |

Glad you and your family are fine phyically, guess you'll be sleeping with one eye opened for awhile. I know I would be. Buy that dog a steak. IMS
Two chows in the house backed by a 44 mag.
For those of you who don't know...chows live for one reason, to protect their owners and their turf other than a little shedding they are clean animals and are easily house broken. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
