On the way home from work today, I was thinking about the dishes that needed to be done, The yard that needs cutting, The floor that needs mopping. But hang on there, what is this? Crossing the Harbor bridge in Corpus, I see flat water! Oh my, this can't be true. After a whole weekend of yakking in the wind, I need to take this window of peace and fish. I arrive at the casa at 6:30pm, strip off the Nomax suit, make a few calls, and I'm in the water at 7:30pm. Not much time to fish, but what the heck.

Not more than 15 minutes into casting a zorra spook, WHAM! big hit, This is the trout I'm looking for......Nope, 20+ red.

casted for a spell, nada, lifted the anchor and reset 30 yards down. WHAM! This is the trout I'm looking for.....Nope, 20+ red.

casted for a spell more, nada, lifted anchor and reset another 30 yards down. WHAM! This MUST be the trout I'm looking for....Nope, 20+ red.

By then it was getting dark so I decided to start heading back in.

On the way back in, I came accross some "shaky" water and had to make a cast. WHAM! Now this is the trout I'm looking for....Nope, 20+ red. took a fast pic and released it.

No trout what so ever, not even a dink. But all reds hit topwater. Strange. Been a long time since I had multiple topwater reds.

The keepers

And the yard stick for the one in doubt....lol

untill next time.

Life is good.

PT

I am surprised you are so surprised about catching a limit of reds on tops. I catch most of my reds on tops. I do fish the flats most of the time. I use spook jrs or baby skitterwalks most of the time because they are smaller and make less noise. I have seen big topwaters spook reds in shallow water when it is real quiet. You may want to try a smaller topwater plug when you are in redfish thick flats. And those big trout will still hit those smaller topwater plugs.

Makes sense, All the reds I've taken from topwater have been on Spook Jr.s
