I don't know if you guys check out kevin cochran's website http://www.fishbaffinbay.com/photos.htm but one of the winners of this years baffin bash( cody maddox) has a picture on kevins website two weeks before the bash with a 25" trout on 3/15/08. Kevin Cochran specializes in trophy trout. cody maddox probably made a lot of money from that tourny. So was it strategy that got him the money or was it potlickin?

Many tournaments like the Texas Trout Series have rules for prefishing. Their's states that you cannot hire a guide 7 days prior to competition nor receive any tips via word of mouth. The Bash Series Tournament did not have any rules regarding the hiring of guides for prefishing.
I think that's a great strategy to utilize especially when fishing a new and unfamiliar area. When I moved to CC 7 years ago, I hired and fished with Joey Farah once a month. I knowledge I gained from my guide was priceless. Unfortunately, we only finished 18th in the Baffin Bash mentioned above. Had tons of fun though!
Great strategy in my opinion. No foul play involved and no rules were broken. |

| Doesn't appear any rule was broken. Sometimes rules are viewed as a way to penalize not as a way to gain advantage. |

Its not uncommon for fisherman to hire a guide if a tourny is held in unfamiliar waters. As long as no rules were broken, I don't see how anyone could have a problem w/ this. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

| I don't care if Cliff Webb, Aubrey Black or any other top guide were to take someone by the hand the say fish right here, you still have to catch them yourself. A person isn't going to beat the folks that were fishing that tourny without being able to fish. |

| It is also common for teams to hire someone else to prefish an area for them when they can't. |

I appreciate some of your responses..Thanks, Capt. Cody

You're right, you have to catch the fish and more importantly know how to catch fish to win. And its more of an assumption than an opinion led by closed minded people when one doesn't know the whole story. When one is limited to the internet for info bad assumptions can be made. Sorry to call you out like that but I was just trying to get on the bandwagon about the latest subjects of potlickin on this board. Anyways, in a tourney as big as that one where even fishing guides can compete you really have to know what you're doing. |
