Grew up in Corpus and coming home next weekend to visit family and go to a trout tournament. My 9 year old nephew wants me to take him fishing. I won't have a boat with me so will have to bank or pier fish. What would be a good place to take him this time of year?

I agree! Marker 37 is the perfect place. My husband and I have gone out there numerous times. We have not taken our kiddos yet, but some of our friends have taken their daughter and she LOVES it! Most of the fish are not keeper size, but every now and then you get some thrown into the mix...and that makes it even more fun. But like most kids, as long as they have a fish on, they dont care what size it is! Good luck and keep us posted as to how your trip goes. Should be a fun time for all of ya! Happy Fishing! Smile

Take a look at the Bob Hall Pier cam, and if it lloks good, go out there or to the beach. Lots of whiting in the surf, which should be just the ticket to make your nine year old's day on he'll remember!

If it looks rough, hit Marker 37 pier early morning just before sunrise with some live shrimp and a popping cork. A ton of schoolie trout in that area, and some keepers mixed in. Should be enough action there to keep the 9 year old happy and lots of photo ops.

Have fun!

Thanks for all the information. Marker 37 sounds perfect. Bob Hall pier may be a little overwhelming especially if the wind is really blowing. Of course I'll have to fish too.

Marker 37 is the first bait stand on the right after you pass over the JFK bridge.

Took my nephew Sunday morning to the Marker 37 pier. Really nice employees working there. We bought a pint of live shrimp and were the only ones on the pier that morning. He caught 7 little pin perch, 1 baby redfish spots and all, and one baby croaker but it didn't croak. He was happy with the fishing trip and of course wants to go back again so I guess next time I go down there I'll have to take him back out. Would love to get him out on our boat.

Thanks for all the advise.

Sounds like the 2 of you had a blast! Everyone out there at 37 is very friendly! Just a real nice place. Occasionally you will hook onto a keeper size spec. trout. My husband, a friend of ours and myself caught 15 keeper trout one night. It was a BLAST! Glad your nephew had a great time too!
