Hey gang its been many years since i hit the n. jetty, and i need some help. in the old days i used to use old golf shoes/ and or rubber golf shoe pullovers to gallop up and down those rocks......Now 17 years later i am ready to hit it.....not figuratively as i do not have as much bounce. What kind of footwear are you rock hoppers wearing?

That is a good question. I've heard of people wearing golf shoes but I haven't seen it. Often I will go bare foot, but I don't think that's too smart sometimes. I've seen wade boots that have felt on the bottom of them, I think for wading gravel bottom rivers and to keep quite, they look like they would work well.

Hey bigdog, welcome aboard. I agree, great bunch over here.
Love that North Jetty, favorite place to fish.
I use old school Chuck Taylor's but don't recommend them. Black with the Johnny Knoxville Jackass skulls are a favorite but the retro reds have seen a rock or two.
Seriously, Rock Hopper is the newest North Jetty guru and TITELINE is the King of the South. They would probably have great input.

welcome to the board. i have some work type shoes with soft wavy tread
that seem to work good. i don't rock hop that much anymore.

Deck shoes with the thight wavy grooves. I got a pair of OPs from Academy that work well.

wading boots with felt soles and spikes are as good as it gets.

The felt soles alone would probably work well, but the spikes (like the old golf shoes) anchor you to the rocks. I bought a pair from cabelas a year or so ago and have never regretted it. You can walk with ease across the slimiest rocks of the jetty without slipping a bit.

One caution.. After using them all day, you tend to forget that the black stuff on the rocks is really slippery and If you take the boots off early and change to your normal shoes to walk back down the jetty, you can easily find yourself sitting on the jetty.

I speak from experience. OUCH!!!

I have tried everything over the years and I buy the Teva type of sandle golf shoe at Academy and replace the spikes w/ titanium logger spikes. I will post again w/ the website for ordering.

Nothing is bullet proof in the black and green slime but I have slipped, fallen and gone in the water many times over the past 30 years but never w/ the golf spikes.

Unless the Jettys is a 100 % wet and slick, I wear Crocs or Teva's type sandles and upon arriving at my destination, I put the spikes on.

Have to work till this evening but I will post the website for the Titanium spikes. You will wear out your shoes before you grind down the spikes.

I will probably be on the North Jetty Sat on 7:00 a.m. boat. Shorts, Backpack and Green cap. If you see me, please introduce yourself. The trout have been spotty the last couple of weeks but the fish we have found have been very nice. 2.5 - 5lbs. Almost all males???

appreciate everybody's suggestions regarding their shoe of choice jour.....i will check out the sandals with spikes and the next time i am in buda, I will hook up with some of the Cabela's suggested footware.

Rockhopper, you may enjoy this one.....Called the girlfriend for the kitchen pass for Saturday, she said hell yeah get to fishin. I hung and looked at my office calendar, Saturday is her b-day....damn woman trap.LOL. I still may see ya on Saturday.

Yes the golf shoes works great!! A Japanese friend gave me a pair of Japanese shoes for jetties/rocks and have similar spikes to golf shoes, and they are amazing stuff. At times i feel like Spiderman!! So, if u got contacts/friends in Japan, tell them to send u a pair. Cool

Be careful w/ the girlfriend's b-day. Could be a test.

I could not find a website but the following has the logger spikes for the golf shoes. You need 14 for a standard pair of golf shoes and if I recall they might have a minimum order:

On the bottom of the cleat it has Champ and Cer*mec embossed.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday, but use your better judgement.
