Anyone have any sugestions on a good spot to take my kids fishing this weekend that doesn't require four wheel drive? You know how kids are...if their not catching, their bored. Crying or Very sad

My girlfriend and I do a lot of fishing in Packery right from the concrete blocks, just down a bit from the boat ramp. We've caught a ton of sand/silver trout there as well as some whiting and croaker. Fresh cut bait strips made from piggy perch or croaker works quite well. I've gigged a 18" flounder in there a few months ago, but it's really not a safe place to wade.

Be very careful around the alge-covered concrete as it is very slippery and I've seen many, many people slip and get really cut up on the rocks and oyster shells. I suspect the local ERs are very familiar with injuries from this area. Another hazard are boaters coming through at full throttle making a tsunami-sized wake without a care in the world.

I was looking at Packery but hadn't really heard of that many people catching right now. That's usually my fall back spot.

if i haven't already, welcome to the board. if i get to go at all, i'll probably head down to big shell. if you get into them, post a report about sucess or great time and if you wantto, be vague about the location. most of us lie a little.
reminds me about the one armed fisherman, all of his measurements were this long(with only one arm raised).
enjoy what should be beautiful weekend.

Packery yeilded nothing but small fish this weekend. The winds probably had something to do with that. Guess there's always another day.

If your children are little ones Roberts Point Park in Port A. is a good spot for perch. If they're old enough to handle a Drum you might consider Charley's Pasture pier also in Port A. The Big Uglies are showing up now and blue crab or sea lice (Mantis shrimp) are usually productive bait.
