Went out south of BHP this morning and the current was ripping north and lots of weed, I couldnt keep my lines out. Decided to hit NPJ, I hadnt fished the jetties yet. Went over there and netted some shade threw out two lines and a few minutes later I looke up and one of my poles was heading out over the railing, ran down and grabbed it about the time the line broke. Reeled it in and looked at the other pole and it was heading for the water, ran down and grabbed it just in time and the fight was on. Fought with it for about 5 minutes the darn thing was heading for cuba, then the hook came loose. Reeled it in and rebaited and cast out again, turn my back for a second and looked back and the pole was trying to go over the railing again, grabbed it real quick and the fight was on again. 10 minutes later I landed a 13.3 lb Jack Cravelle. That was the first jack that I have ever been able to land. Seems a school of Jacks came thru just tearing up the water bait was flying everywhere. That action lasted about 15 minutes and that was all. Fished untill 12:30 pm without another bite so I decided to call it quits. I did net a bunch of mullet and large shad 6-8 inches in size, brought them home and put them in the freezer for later. Called yakman and he came over and got the Jack for his shark bait.

Those jacks are a blast but they can sure put a hurt on the equipment. My friend lost his rod, reel, and rod holder to what was probably a big jack once. Looked up and it was all gone.
Thanks for the great report,

There's a heck of a lot of species I haven't caught, but Jacks are about as strong as any fish I have ever caught. Some of my friends gripe when they catch them, but I love it. The fight is what it's all about. Glad you were able to enjoy your trophy. _________________ Big Ed
