Here is my first official report. Drove down to PINS on Friday after noon from North Austin. Arrived at about 5pm and set up around the 8 mile marker. I set out the long rods with live croaker, live mullet, and cut whiting. At about 7pm my Abu 10000i gets a huge run. I drop what I am doing and run to grab the pole. I tighten up the line and set the hook, BAM, FISH ON!! As soon as I set the hook he makes a long run. At this point I am thinking fish of a life time. Don't "f" this up, take your time, and don’t force him in. After about 30 minutes of fighting this monster, I finally beach him. A few quick pics and he/she was released back to the gulf. This was the first shark I had ever caught that wasn't a pup. What a rush!! I am assuming he was about 5 ft long. I couldn't find the tape and didn't want to keep him/her out of the water for too long while i searched for it. I then continued to fish on into the late evening, with no little to no luck. The wife was catching whiting, but that was it. Saturday morning I got up at the crack of dawn and started catching bait. There were loads of mullet in the surf, but once the sun came out so did the weeds. I battled the weeds all afternoon and eventually gave up. Over all this trip was a success and an experience I will never forget.

In addition I would like to thank all my fellow anglers who post on this site, and thank you for sharing your knowledge and fishing techniques. You guys have really helped me take my fishing to another level. And for this I thank you.

nice fish there. What did it hit. When you said you were using croaker, I'm picturing you using a redfish type leader that that badboy would put a hurting on, now I'm just curious? Way to go.

R.Arnold, that is exactly what I used. I had 40# cajun line tied to a redfish leader. The redfish leader was store baught from academy. Nothing fancy since I am novice. It was a hell of a fight though. Had the heart pumping a mile a minute. I just tried to work him nice and slow. If he didn't want to budge I would just sit there with him with the line tight, then try to work him slowly again. It seemed like every time I would try and get him over the bar he would make a big run. He had me going left and right, but I just tried to keep him in front of me. Man just thinking about it makes me grin from ear to ear Very Happy

Conrgat's on a nice bull shark! The water looked good,
I fished this past Saturday morning at High Island and the water was full of weeds.
The High Isand took a hit from the storm and there must have been fifty or more line repairmen puting up new pole all up and down Hwy 87. I hope they have thier power back up now.

You were next to us, as far as PINS goes, on Saturday. We remember seeing your camp. We didn't catch anything though. Nice bull!
