My friend told me last week as he was leaving the coast he saw lots of people at labonte park. he got off and found out that people were catching bull reds on speck rigs. i could not believe it but he was serious. i have never seen a fish caught there. he said that if u could throw into the rapids the reds were there.

also saw bass and freshwater drum

Labonte Park at certain times of the year is good for catching:

white and black bass
channel, blue, and yellow catfish
perch and crappie
monster blue crabs
flounder
reds
trout - although seldom
skip jack
and probably something else not coming to mind right now

I have never been to a place as such that one could catch catfish on a lure on every cast.

Watch out at night though, the cotton mouths are everywhere

Also, be up to par on the difference between white and hybrid bass as there is a game warden there whom I do not believe correctly identifies them. If it were not for the handy TP&W book, several would have tickets.

Not sure if you will believe this, but I talked to two guys in the early spring who showed me pictures of small (24-30") tarpon and large snook (25-30") caught around the second railroad trestle on the Nueces.

I live 8 miles from there. Maybe I should try my luck there more often rather than drive 30 + miles for some costal locations lol Very Happy Very Happy . And Yes I have caught Reds, Trout, Gar,Gasper Goo, and some huge carp there. but never any snook or tarpon. That would be awesome.

Now, there was a pic of a mahi in the Laguna somewhere that I posted a few months ago. That was pretty far fetched.

I think I am gonna have to claim shenanigans on anyone catching a tarpon or snook up the river though. Maybe it was a catan and they were confused!

126 pounds) anyway he has seen tarpon at the dam and it way not
gar . (Robstown record about 1976)
