I am rigging up a 1984 Chevy Suburban 4x4 diesel for PINS fishing. I was hoping you guys might have suggestions for me, including and especially tires.

Wide ones, BFGs are excellent but pricey. Nittos are good. Just wide and take one of those small 12v compressors with you so you can let air out and fill them before you get off the sand.

BF Goodrich all terrain t/a , awesome tires , been around along time for a reason , if your burb is stock 31.10.50 are a perfect match and run about 125-135 a piece , Discount used to sell there brand of all terrains called Pathfinders , they were very good as well and there warranty is very hard to beat , same size was around 100 bucks a tire , dont know if they still carry them , I use BF only now , well worth the money . Goodyear made a wrangler 31 11.50 , dont know if they still do , I had these on a stock blazer and the xtra width was awesome , if I remember right they were pricey for the xtra inch ...

I'd rather not have to buy new rims. So I gues the widest tire I can get with stock rims. How about the tread design. Any suggestions?

all terrain tread...........the only way to go. Mud tread will get you in trouble. Moves way too much sand at a time. They will dig you deeper fast.

Richard Cepek Fun Countrys are by far the best tire that I have ever used in sand. As pointed out above, the wider the better.

BFG's AT's
You won't dig into the sand. You have a lot of tread pattern.

Bridgestone AT REVO's. Quiet on the streets and sticky on the sand.

I have a almost new ( 1000 paved road miles) set of Goodyear Mud tires 15" x 31" x 9.5" on chrome chevy 5x5 bolt rim's. My truck was stolen and had my off road wheels in storage. I paid $800 just for the tires. I will take best offer or trades.
Cheers!

If your not planning on getting new tires go to PepBoys and get the cyclone 12V compressor. About $30 to $50 and will pump up your 31x10.5 from 10psi to 35psi in about 3mts.

Air down when you get on the sand, air up when you leave.

I got 60,000 miles out of my Pathfinder tires. They are not noisy on the road and I have not been stuck with them. They have a good sand tread and are about half the price of the BF Goodrich...My 2 cents...adios

Skipper

BTW I got em at Discount Tire.

Another two cents here.....I have used the Pepboys brand dakota all terain tire and are very inexpensive. I paid under a hundred dollars a tire for a 285 75R16 tire. I have over 50,000 miles on them and have never been stuck and have put them through some thick sand and mud. Again just my two cents. Almost forgot they are on a 4X4 1/2 ton dodge truck.
