Just received some terrible news. Capt. John Wooten, a long time Baffin guide and good friend was killed in a boating accident in Corpus Christi today. I don't know very many details but I do know that they have not found his body yet. His family is understandably distraught and many local guides are standing by to lend a helping hand should the Coast Guard require it. Please pray for the Wooten family. This one hits hard folks and very personal. Later, Aubrey

Sorry to hear about that. Will pray for the family. Also a lesson here no matter how experienced you are you still need to be careful. Do they know what and how the accident happened?

Capt. John Wooten and family are 1st class. Interviewed him a few years back for an article in the Kingsville Record. Capt. Wooten went out of his way to show and inform me about the guiding buisness. When I would see the Capt. on the water he was again informative and friendly, something you do not find from many guides, and always polite.

Capt. Wooten & family pryaers will be with you & family. Calm seas above ........keep an eye on all of us down here. I'll miss you!

Lord's Blessings guide you on......

If there's some chance, perhaps he's survived some how since his body hasn't been found yet as the first post said. (I think I read it right.)

My Prayers and Hope he's alright some how.

God Bless.

We will conduct a first light search in the morning with a helo and 25' boat from Station Port A. We are still searching. That is all the info I can release at this time. Our prayers are with the family and friends.

Thanks
Kevin

Caller Times report.

CORPUS CHRISTI — U.S. Coast Guard rescuers working with Port of Corpus Christi Police and other groups have been searching since noon for a man knocked overboard near the bayfront, officials said.

A man was on his boat with two other people when he fell out, said Coast Guard Lt. John Yares. The man’s boat was just east of the bayfront breakwater about a half mile from the Peoples Street T-head, Yares said.

No other details were immediately available Monday evening, Yares said.

Here is our Press Release

LOCAL FISHING GUIDE MISSING

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Coast Guard units responded today to a 55 year old male who fell overboard 1/2 mile off Corpus Christi Marina.

Captain John Wooten of Kingsville, TX and two mechanics from Gunderland Marine Supply were troubleshooting Wooten's 21 foot Skeeter fishing boat when a mechanical failure occurred.

The boat was reported to have been at a high speed when a hydraulic failure caused the boat to make a sharp turn and Wooten to fall overboard. Wooten was not wearing a life jacket.

The mechanics onboard regained control of the boat and relocated Wooten, but when one of the mechanics jumped in the water to assist, Wooten was not able to be found. The mechanics immediately radioed the Coast Guard on channel 16 for help at approximately 12:00 p.m.

Two Coast Guard rescue boat crews from Station Port Aransas, Texas responded to the call along with a Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter crew from Air Station Corpus Christi. A 29 square mile search area was covered today, and the search for Wooten will continue at sunrise tomorrow morning.

Corpus Christi Marina Rescue, Corpus Christi Port Police, and Corpus Christi Police Department Divers assisted in today's search for Wooten.

We have been in close contact with the family.

Kevin
