Here are a couple of photos of one camp that thinks that they own the road. I wish I would have taken one of the other camps as I picked my way through all there attempts to block the low road with everything but the kitchen sink. I sure did get some disturbing looks from those so call gentlemen.

Trey

Try to get the license numbers of the roadhogs, too. Then drop the pix off at the PINS HQ or email to:
pais_superintendent@nps.gov

Just emailed your post to that addy.

No, the cast out rods are fine. To hit them or their lines you'd wind up in the water of the gut in the background. Those guys targeted a pinch, apparently somewhere in the high banks. Too bad the rest of the choices they made weren't as good.

Look at the old ruts next to the rear of the truck. The rods that are leaning up against the truck, the tailgate, the end of the kayak, the canopy, the chairs and other gear beneath the canopy, and the BLOCKHEADS themselves are what's in the public road.

Those who made the new ruts in the pictures' foregrounds had to make sharp turns out of the road to detour around.

We also had to go around this group. There were several camps that were parked in the weed line and had gear to the water. One guy was standing there yelling at people as they drove by his camp because they didn't go around, he thought he owned the 100ft of sand between his truck and the water.

The driving was so good in places, there were folks there that definately don't know the rules of the road. They won't see their picture on here because if they frequented this board, they would have been parked and set up the way they were.

Great driving to the high banks, water was decent....fishing was not. Not much fish to report...just bait.

See ya on the sand,

Trey - Where are the trout pics?
Sportfisher - It was good to meet you on the sand.

I had two newbies with me on Saturday and had to explain why I parked parallel to the beach rather than backing up. With all regulations concerning the outdoors, it always ties back to Education, Education, Education. Every trip now I find myself yielding to South bound traffic that is driving too fast, and I refuse to play chicken with non-regulars.

Raiderred,

It was nice talking to you, how did ya'll do? We ended up only catching bait...small whiting and skipjacks. We also decided to go back early, ya'll were gone when we headed off the beach.

There were a ton of folks out there this weekend, didn't see very many of them catching fish....any good reports from the weekend?

See ya on the sand,

Has anyone thought about being very polite and explaining the rules of the road when at the beach to people like this.

They probably don't realize what they are doing is wrong.

If not because I found this great site with so many people willing to explain and provide valued information I could have done the same thing and never considered my actions incorrect.

Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

That's a good point but some folks take suggestions better than others.
If there were enough enforcement by the rangers that would be helpful but their ranks are pretty thin. As you mentioned most people probably don't even realize that setup is a problem but it clearly shows how and why the sand gets torn up by folks having to veer around their setup.
