The winds were almost calm this morning, and the redfish were out crawling shorelines in force! I released at least a dozen and kept triplets that all measured 27.5". Very Happy One oversized red found a way to break part of the reel seat on my little 4 weight flyrod, so it will require some epoxy work but should be good after that. The second half of the morning was a workout for the 6 weight, and it had no issues catching everyone who responded. In 13.5 miles of paddling I only saw one person on the water. Thank you Wednesday!

Nice pictures of both the sunrise and the fish. Way to go Glenn.

Great trip and report, Glenn. Are the reds still biting your crab flies, or has their taste changed with the heat? I can't imagine paddling and fishing for 13.5 miles, especially with the heat and little or no wind. Of course I'm 15 or 20 years older. And, I wouldn't have been able to do it at your age, either You're a real inspiration to all. Love all your posts. TexasJim

I switched to the redfish crack flies because they do not spook the skittish shallow fish. In October and November the fish get more aggressive and do not spook so easily.

I'm learning so much from you and Zia both!
I've got to try this with my flyrod, but I've never been able to get that close to them visually..yet..

Thanks! One of the big benefits of using a kayak is the stealthy nature of the boat. If you take things slow and limit the noise from your paddle, you can usually get within 20 feet. Yes you have to stay seated in this game, but when the fish's back is above the waterline there really isn't a need to stand.
