I've been catching lots of specks 8" to 13", (Subway Trout, Footlongs!) in Aransas and Redfish Bays. These fish had to be alive in February, and survived the freeze event. The TPWD said the kill was really worse in the Lower Laguna Madre, but I fished in South Padre in July and caught many short specks, there, too. I'm hoping that in late Spring, we'll be seeing lots of 15"+ specks. Now, if the TPWD will just let us catch and keep some.
I don't understand why they would propose letting us keep 15 and 16 inch trout and 24 and 25 inch ones? Why not make the slot 15 to 20 inch, and let the bigger ones live to breed? As with most government rules, logic doesn't apply.

Out of all the trout on the coast TPW assumes less than 10% of the population is of keeper size. With this being said i personally have not caught many undersized fish at all this year, so maybe when you get into dinks move locations to try and get into better fish. I never catch big fish when im catching small ones. I do agree with the 15-20" rule and honestly wish they would make the limit 3 per person until we figure out the affect of the 420 guide boats we now have in the corpus rockport area.
