Just a quick trip down, had to save the afternoon for family business.
Left Austin at 4:30am, On the sand right at the Kleberg County line at 9am, fished the long rods with sand flea Fishbites till 1pm.
Lost three store bought pompano rigs right off the bat, something with teeth the light test mono could not handle. Re-tied a couple more with 50lb test I had in the truck and that stopped the bite offs. .
Final score, one good sized pompano and 5 smooth puffers. I'm guessing the latter are schooling in the surf?
Tide was out , water was very clear and cool. No wind to speak of. All fish were caught in the second gut. High tide was obviously close to the dunes, the sand was well packed.
As an aside, Bob Hall still looks the same. For a pier that is supposed to be too dangerous to use it seems to be holding up well. |

| Likely Spanish that were cutting you off, or small sharks. Both have been thick the past week. That'll all change tomorrow with the front. |

^^^^ Agreed on the smacks. A likely candidate if it wasn't the puffers.
They (I'm assuming that's what they were) were boiling the surface under birds past the 3rd bar at numerous spots around Newport Pass yesterday around noon. |
