Mod's, please move when needed, thought everyone needed to see this..

FYI Ya'll,
We had an incident over the weekend with a Truck/Trailer parked just outside our complex on Whiteley.

Thieves hit 6:00am Saturday and attempted to sawz-all off the Catalytic Convertor. Also stole some items out of the bed of the truck successfully.
One of our residents caught them and scared them off. By the time the Police arrived, the bad guys were gone.

They Came Back, late Saturday night/Sunday morning sometime and finished the job and stole more stuff out of the truck as well.

I know this is a "thing" in Corpus these days but hadn't seen any of it around here yet.

Someone needs to market "skidplates" that mount under catalytic converters to make it hard for thieves to get to them.

Just bought this for my tundra:

https://www.talonsgarage.com/

1/4" thick aluminum, fairly straightforward to mount, and protects (to a reasonable degree) the cat converters from theft. Not cheap, but what got me more than the expense of replacing the cat converters is I've heard some folks who got their cat converters stolen had to wait weeks to get their vehicle fixed because the converters were on back order. I would rather proactively pay the money for these protective plates than not be able to drive my truck for a month.

There are other solutions available from other providers as well, just reporting the one I chose. I don't work for them nor will I benefit from this post, so this isn't a commercial, just responding to the previous poster about wishing there were skid plates available.

Makes me wonder how wide spread this problem is in CC? Does the CC police dept. keep records on specific types of automobile thiefs or just automobile in general. My concern is do we have a local thieve in our neighborhood or is this someone roaming the city?

https://www.kristv.com/news/local-news/ccpd-catalytic-converter-thefts-up-312-in-corpus-christi

Corpus Christi police say catalytic converter thefts are up 312% in the city since the beginning of 2020.

And killing thieves apparrrently does not help matters:

I just heard my neighbor start his truck. He launched at Conn Brown Harbor in AP Friday and came back to find out his cats had been stolen right in the packed parking lot. And, it's a 15-year-old F150!
It's happening everywhere, and will continue until the cops bust the scrap buyers, or set up stings there.

The scrap buyers are online and out of state. The thief knows beforehand what he'l be paid, they give him a quote and they pay shipping.
