I tested alot of kayaks before I bought my latest. I tried the Hobie Outback with the mirage drive and personally didn't think it was all it was cracked up to be. The kayak itself was really nice and the hand controlled rudder was great. It was a little heavy and the mirage drive is was getting in the way when I was way up in the shallows. I know it stows up against the bottom of the boat but it was still in the way. So then, if you decide to take it out, paddling the heavier kayak is like trying to paddle a bathtub with an oar. However, Hobie makes great kayaks and I ended up buying the Hobie Quest, it's a non mirage drive model they have and it is just AWESOME and Hobie makes way more acessories for they kayaks than any other brand, check out their new livewell system in their 2007-2008 catalog, it is SWEEEEET! I guess all I'm saying is to definately test them out before you buy. Hope this helps............

Have a Outback also & love it, love the quieter hands free operation. (plus no overhead water paddle drip) Can go farther faster with the Turbo fins also.
