Covida Loca Part III - Future Generation Kids From Out Of Space Mega PINS Surf Report
Well guys, here is another edition of the Covida Loca Report. This fall has been interesting in many ways, despite normal migrations not materializing due to a high volume of tropical activity this year. The anchovies never ran the beach as thick as they usually do because of this. In addition, the juevenile 4" mullet and running thick, but the mass trains of 7-9" mullet in which the jackfish frenzy for have not shown up. Perhaps the next major cold front will kick off the rest of the mullet migration.
Overall, there have been a bunch of sharks. October is usually an infestation of 3-5' blacktips and random bulls. We did get an 8'2" bull a couple of weeks ago and a greater hammer just after that so there are still some big sharks around. If the jacks storm the beach, the big tigers will make a cameo for a couple weeks. Redfish have been of all sizes, and when we get more cold weather, they will only get bigger.
This fall I have had some killer charters with families and other regular clients. There has been a huge emphasis on putting kids on good fish lately and we have succeeded. It was pretty cool putting a 4 year old on a 6 foot bull shark. The rod was left in the rod holder (like half of Texas shark fishermen) and he reeled it in all by himself standing on a 5 gallon bucket! Other big sharks by children were caught on that particular trip. on another trip, I put a tiny 6 year old girl on a 6 foot blacktip. She never gave up and stayed on the fish til the very end! Other good fish have been caught by others.
For the past month or two, I've been working closely with Harte and the CSSC with various sat tags, mostly short term ADL's. The tags are essentially engineered to detach after a few days and then I am sent back down to find them. So far I have a pretty good batting average for recovery.
What do we have to look forward to? Well I think November fishing will be phenomenal, especially with each passing cold front. I am thinking the fishing will remain great well into December unless we get a solid arctic front.
This is one of the best times of the year on the beach and I do have quite a few charters booked til the end of the year. I do have some availabilty left and would encourage you to get with me right away if interested in an adventure either for yourself or your family. For pure action, the late fall is my favorite time of the year. The time is right now to get in on an adventure! Contact me via message or check out
Oceanepics.com for more info! I am doing a special right now for if you book within the next few days, kids under 16 are FREE with standard adult booking. Now is the time guys, get in on a trip or book now to secure your dates for next year!
All sharks were caught on Catch Sharks Leaders and Gear. The Incognito Acclimation and Hammer-time leaders with Tru-Sand hooks have been crushing it! The big tiger came on a Sandman24 hook and the hammer and other bigger sharks were caught on the slightly smaller Hammertime 20/0 tru-sand hooks. Reds, small sharks, and rays have been hitting the Jack Slammers and Drum Masters.

Here are a plethora of photos (almost all from charters) of just some of the fish during the Covida Loca (Part III) time period... Enjoy!

Just thinking about how many baits you had to paddle out to just get these pics makes my arms tired haha! I love these mega reports! _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |
