I've been using it for 6 - 7 years now. I started out just using it on my tackle for yellowfins at the floaters.

I used to tie an Albright or a Crazy Alberto for my inshore and surf tackle but after a couple of failures I started tying the FG on my inshore gear too.

I think folks tend to shy away from it because it looks cumbersome when you watch the videos or watch someone tie it but it's not that hard and gets a lot easier with practice.

Donnie nailed it! Next to the Palomar knot, my favorite knot is Donnie's FY knot. Hope to see you on the sand sometime, Donnie.
Conditions are really nice right now so I'm headed out shortly to do some fishing at several locations. If nothing else, I'll enjoy the weather and one (or two) cigars.

I miss my buddy Stan.

Donnie,
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I'll be getting a later start than planned on fishing today. However, I have charted a course: NPJ, then beach north of that, then Deadman's Hole, then backside of MISP/Fish Pass and finally end it up with a visit to Packery Park. Will definitely look at all spots and may/maynot fish them but my truck is always stocked with equipment for a variety of fishing locations, i.e. surf, jetties and wade.

I like the low profile of the FG knot, but it's not something I feel I can tie on the water with the wind blowing in the rain and 40 degrees.......I can do that with the Alberto. Maybe I need to practice it more??

Same situation, my only destination is pins or at least the surf. Cant do the jetties but the surf is just a hair north of perfect for me, even on a bad day.
May be manana, but that water does look good today, i sure appreciate the ranger folks or whoever is keeping that malaquite webcam clean and dry.

Heading out in 5' to execute my plotted course. As for the FG knot, not in my lifetime and certainly not on purpose. I can tie the Palomar in the dark.

I've never used the fg knot, but just reviewed it again and found some alternative ways to tie it. I've used the albright for years for the same purpose of reducing the knot which goes through the guides, but only after knocking my tip guide out one day. Embarassed That's a hard lesson to learn, especially on a favorite rod, fortunately it was years ago. Thanks for bringing the fg knot up.

I use the FG knot.
I learned the pinch method of tying it and I can tie it offshore or in a kayak with 4lb braid.
It is more durable when I am casting all day. I don

Do check the knot after you have transported them in a rod rack or rocket launchers. That is the only time I have had one loosen up.

I just watched a video on the FG knot. Looks a little difficult to tie without practice and in the winds in cold. I tried to find the FY not but couldn't find anything. I saw the Alberto knot

I may be wrong, but I think reference to the fy knot is sarcasm from someone essentially saying they aren't going to the trouble to tie the fg knot?
