I just watched the Southwest Fishing Report on TV and they showed Tarpon being caught around Port Aransas and the beachfront. I haven't fought one in over 20 years down there. Anyone else know about this? Might be time to for my wife and I to get out of Bulverde for a couple of days and hit the jetties.

I saw one that was landed in the Upper Laguna Madre and from the comments it may have been the second one landed in same area within weeks.

A guide out of Arroyo City I follow on FB also posted some juvenile tarpon caught in land and talking to my cousin he said it is little secret down south. I would love to catch a juvenile Tarpon in STX. Scott Null targets them in Port O'Connor if I recall.

I remember it being late summer/early fall (I want to say late August/early September - maybe slightly later) about two years ago I was visiting with my ex's family staying in those condos nearest the south jetty on St. Augustine/Packery and we were sitting in the yard outside the condo and there were literally HUNDREDS of folks fishing some kind of frenzy off the jetty in similar conditions. Never found out what bait - someone said large, silver spoons worked for them - but they had a tarpon frenzy right there. Best part was it lasted a good 4 hours. Almost made me want to run home and grab my rod. But I didn't want to get in that mess of people on slick rocks (at the time not knowing it was a tarpon frenzy until much later). We've all been there. Wink

But yeah, the tarpon are out there still, just more elusive than they were in the golden age.

Maybe its just the time of year, but it would be awesome if they were coming back. In between Hanna and the Storms that hit LA when the beach was calm there were tarpon in the third gut. We fished in the evenings for a week straight and every-time me and some friends would go, someone would hook one. Finally on the last day that the beach was calm one of my cow-workers caught about a 3 footer.
