Tow Boat USA is what i use, but they have to come from Port A. normally. Sea Tow right now is based out of Bluff Landing. So depends where you boat .

Knock on wood, I haven't had to use them yet but I see the SeaTow boat out and about quite a bit in the ULM. Haven't seen the Towboat boat in a while.

And Seatow is based right here in the bluff. They also have five or so different types of boats for different types of towing.

I've been a member of TowBoat US for about 20 years and have used their service about 4 times. The first time I was not a member and was in Bastrop Bay just off of West Galveston Bay. It's a long funny or not so funny story depending on who is telling it, but my wife has purchased the membership every year thereafter! Laughing TowBoatUS have always been prompt and well prepared and I especially appreciate their representation of boaters world wide
in our various issues which come up with governmental entities, especially on ethanol applicable to boaters. Their magazine supplied to members is aways informative, as well.

My friend called Tow Boat when a cold front left his boat high and dry.
Tow Boat guy went and salvaged his boat and sold it back to him for $6600.
They will never see a dime from me.

^^^^ I've read stories on other sites about SeaTow operators doing the same thing, so I'm led to believe it's a matter of an owner making a mistake in requesting service under the circumstances and the service operator taking advantage of the situation and the laws allowing such action. It would be very helpful if someone knowledgeable about how this can happen would explain the facts of the matter, so the rest of us can be aware and avoid having someone take advantage of us under similar circumstances.

Would not touch Seatow with somebody else's 10 foot pole. I've had very bad experiences in the past. Towboat US has a boat at Marker 37 and Port A.

Just a note, a lot of boat insurance policies have a on the water towing rider, mine is thru Progressive.

That's true John, but in my first experience I mentioned in West Galveston Bay my insurance only covered a portion of the almost $500.00 cost. I don't remember the actual cost, but it was much more than I thought it should be. Since then, each time I have used TowBoatUS' service they send an accounting of the occurrence and they generally pay that much or more, but my cost is always covered by my membership. I'm sure my 20 year membership has paid for their cost in my situations, but at east I had no additional costs. The main advantage one has from the membership is there is someone to call if you need assistance on the water, otherwise the USCG probably will get involved and you probably end up hiring one of the two services at a very high one-time cost.

Since I didn't know anything about the maritime salvage laws I decided to do some research. There are probably better sources then what I'm going to post, but it is pretty clear what the perils are and how to avoid them:https://www.marlinmag.com/marine-salvage-and-towing-differences/

I recently spoke to Tracy from tow boat us who told me he was the owner for this region and he keeps a boat at his house on the Gypsy canal on the island.

SeaTow has done me well. Second year member and both times after paying I have had to use them. The furthest being all the way in 9 mile on a Sunday.
